Sister Queen Esther Rouse Barrett Obituary

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Barrett Family share the peaceful transition of Sister Queen Ester Rouse Barrett. Sister Barrett exchanged mortal for immortality and gain her reward for her many years of labor on Thursday, March 31, 2022 in McLeod Hospice House with her family by her side. 

A Celebration of Life well lived is 11:00AM on Saturday, April 9, 2022 in The First Church of God, Lee Street.  Mask are required.  Interment will follow in Faith Memorial Gardens.  Public viewing will be 10am to 3PM on Friday, April 8, 2022 in the Chapel of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc.  Wake Services and viewing of the remains will be from 4:00PM to 6:00PM on Friday, April 8, 2022 at The First Church of God, Lee Street.

Mrs. Queen Esther Barrett was born on September 7, 1919, the fourth child of the late Archie Rouse Sr., and Beulah Muldrow Rouse.  She took her heavenly flight home on Thursday, March 31, 2022.

Mrs. Barrett was married to the late Carey Barrett, Sr.   To this union, six children were born.  Caring very deeply for her family, she was a loving wife and mother.  At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a member of the Lee Street Church of God in Darlington.     She served in several capacities at Lee Street Church of God.    One of her most memorable service was serving as a Sunday School Teacher for the Beginner’s Class.  She also served as an usher, sexton, church custodian, member of the Christian Women Connection (CDC) formerly known as the Women of the Church of God, and member of the Flower Club.  She also served in the Nursing Home Ministry, VBC, and enjoyed singing on the Senior Choir. Her last service included the Deaconess Ministry.  Her beautiful smile and encouraging presence will be deeply missed.  She was a faithful servant and a mighty prayer warrior.  She was a woman of prayer. 

Mrs. Barrett was employed at Clanton’s Auto Auction now known as Manheim Auctions.  She was also employed by the late Whitney and Elizabeth Capen.  An incredible cook, loyal friend, and safe confidante who positively touched the lives of many co-workers, family, and friends. She enjoyed singing,  fishing, and gardening.  Her tenacity and courage in the face of adversity has served and will serve as an example for many generations.

Mrs. Barrett was preceded in death by her husband, Carey Barrett, Sr.,  her sons, William Barrett, David Barrett, Carey Barrett, Jr. and  Levern Barrett, her grandson, Michael Wayne Barrett,  parents, Archie Rouse and Beulah Muldrow Rouse, and her siblings, Abraham Rouse, Robert Lee Rouse, Florrie Lee, Annie Mae Brown, Nancy Mack, Otis Archie Rouse,  George Rouse, James Rouse, and Thomas Rouse.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters,  Pennye Barrett Watley and Deatrice Barrett Curtis, her four granddaughters,  Jenae Barrett Sequeira,(Marcellus), Kara Watley Harrison (Vernon) , Annette Barrett, and Alexandria Curtis, six great grandchildren, Karl Hayes Jr., Alexus Hayes, Philip Harrison, Marcellus Sequeira, Kaylyn Harrison, and Jamar Sequeira,  two great-great grandchildren, Rommie Saint Williams, III and Vakaria Chakra Hayes, a beloved sister, Beulah Mae Davis,  a loving sister-in-law, Gladys Rouse, and a host of loving nieces, nephews,  great-nieces,  great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

At the family’s request there will be no visitation to the residence.
