Obituary
Sister Michelle Crystal Hunter Dancy better known as “Chelle” was born in Darlington, South Carolina a daughter of the late Brother Charles L. Hunter, Sr. and Mother Maudie Harkless Hunter on Saturday, August 28, 1976.
She was a graduate of South Florence High School Class of 1994. She received an associate degree in marketing from Florence Darlington Technical College and a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix.
Later in life, she married Jacques Dancy, and together three beautiful children were born.
Sister Michelle was a member of First Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc., under the Leadership of Pastor Gino Jennings. She was a good woman with the Lord on her side. She did a great job in being a wife to her husband, a mother to her children and serving our Lord Jesus Christ.
She passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, at her residence. She was preceded in death by: her parents Brother Charles L. Hunter Sr and Mother Maudie Hunter; her Daughter, Aniyah Dancy.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Jacques Dancy. This union was blessed with a daughter and son: Aysia Morgan Dancy and Noah Elimelech Dancy; two sisters and two brothers: Deborah H Cox of Florence, SC, Elizabeth D. (Maurice, Deceased) Marsh of Florence, SC, Charles L (Ida) Hunter, Jr. of Florence, SC and Melvin C (Michelle) Hunter of Florence, SC; Mother-in-law, Ruby Dancy and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Husband point of view - Michelle Crystal Dancy, is a precious pearl, too precious for this world. This young woman was a dynamic force behind a meek and quiet spirit. She was always busy working in the church, achieving professional goals and reaching personal accomplishments. During the mid-1990s, she coordinated fundraisers to support the small storefront congregation meeting in Florence SC. I met this young woman and began the Pen Pal for the Youth Program between Alabama and South Carolina congregation’s children.
For a brief moment, she moved to Tennessee to help her family. There was no temple there, but she and her sister stayed in contact with Pastor Jennings for guidance. While in Tennessee she and her sister both received the baptism of the Holy Ghost that same night. It was also during this time she was diagnosed with Systemic Scleroderma. This illness would be present for the rest of her life, but it didn’t stop her.
Sis. Michelle moved to Philadelphia, PA where she worked in various auxiliaries and attended Temple University working on her business degree. Once, again our path crossed as we both were regular contributors to the Truth of God Chronicles a quarterly periodical coordinated by Mother Pope at the time. Sister Michelle submitted serious articles regarding temple progress, recipes, and poetry while I contributed to the word search and puzzles.
I always saw this beautiful woman working. Later, returning to Florence, SC to help her family. Sis. Michelle supported the now larger Florence, SC congregation working with the children’s choir, leading project outreach events, and participating in other auxiliaries. Durning this time she obtained a marketing degree and immediately started on her course work to obtain her business degree. She was an English tutor at Florence Darlington Tech through the week and with her college buddy, Tina Depree, she planned and operated wedding events.
I met this beautiful lady again as if it was the first time. I saw her in a different light. I had a new youth project in mind, this would require a marriage license. After, few years of talking and learning each other. We were married in Florence, SC at the church.
Sis. Michelle and I move to Columbia, SC where we commuted to Florence, SC for service weekly until a new temple was announced in Columbia, SC. Sis. Michelle did what she did best and that was work. She and Sis. Sabrina Jones coordinates the First International Youth Conference in Columbia, SC (with only four members). Sis. Michelle helped with finding the first meeting place in Columbia, SC where service was held for several years. She was financial secretary, baptism team member and Project Outreach (PO)coordinate to the Columbia temple for years. She obtain her Bachelor in Business Management degree and had two children during this period.
As First Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ influence in South Carolina and North Carolina grew so did Sis, Michelle’s duties. At one point she was supporting three temples at once as financial secretary (Charlotte, NC, Sumter, SC, and Columbia SC.) while in the backdrop she was a dedicated wife, a loving mother and devoted daughter attending to her ill mother and father. As Project Outreach (PO) coordinator she organized three (3) successful clothing and food drives before a permanent temple was established in Columbia, SC. The present of First Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ was known in the community before a physical worship location could be established. As, one Project Outreach patron stated, “you all [First Church] are given all these things away [pointing to another church in the community] they always make us buy everything”.
Sis. Michelle Dancy has never stopped working and striving to do anything good and honorable. In August, 2024, she obtainedher business license for her crochet business.
Her life was short but well lived. She lived her life in step with the Word of God. I hope as you read the abridge lines of this amazing woman that you will find inspiration and courage to steady your course in God and keep striving in all good and honorable things. Keep striving in the faith, keep striving in matters of business and professionalism. Keep striving in love, relationship and family.
Be minded “…Why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner…” (Acts 1:11). Life is short. There is no time to waste. Keep working.
Big Sister point of view- Michelle in a sense was my human rock. Full of life and loved to sing. We would often find ourselves singing "I Can Depend on God" whether things were going good or bad. After singing our spirits would be lifted.
She has been there with me through thick and thin. She was a big help in raising my children, especially when years ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I didn't know whether I was coming or going but that girl stepped up and helped me through it all. When my youngest son was going through cancer, Michelle prayed and prayed with me and said you know everything will be alright. Whatever is in God's plan will be. There have beenseveral times she has been a bright and shining star in my life. I will never forget her.
God's plan for her was on Monday January 13th. Now she is resting. No more pain. You were a part of the 5 Hunter's children and a twin to our brother. We will always love and miss you. Rest on my sister. "I LOVE YOU!”
Big Sister #2 point of view – Michelle was my baby sister and friend, a sister who spoke her mind and kept it real. She was there for me when my husband, Brother Maurice passed and the loss of our child. Michelle supported my views on starting my own business, which she always gave me support when I needed it. With every event I attended she tried her best to be there to help me in every way. Michelle will be truly missed by me and her siblings. Michelle, who was also known as, “Pooh”, had a big heart. There is one thing I can say Michelle died in the Lord filled with the Holy Ghost. (GLORY!).
Big Brother point of view – Michelle was the best baby sister in the world. She was my best friend.
My Twin point of view – Michelle came into this world with me, and she will always be a part of me. I will always love my twin.
