SFC John Moses Wright Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that the Wright family and the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announce the transition of SFC John Moses Wright of Florence, SC.  SFC Wright exchanged time for eternity on Saturday morning, May 13, 2023 at his residence following a brief illness. 

Celebration of Life is 9:00AM on Friday, May 19, 2023 in Lawson Grove Baptist Church.  Interment will Military Honors will follow in US National Cemetery, Florence.   

 

Obituary

     SFC John Moses Wright was born August 7, 1947 in Darlington, SC the son of Lillie Mae McKenzie & Crosley Bruce. He departed this life on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at his residence.

  He was a member of Pleasant Gove Missionary Church in Darlington, SC.

  He received his formal education in Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1969

    In the Community, he was a member of The Shriner in Crescent Temple #148 Florence, SC

Spaulding Heights Community; long-standing member since 1970. Acted as President, Board Member, Committee Chair and Youth Baseball Coach. 

   He was employed at Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation, Florence, SC where he retired.

    SFC Wright served his Country in the U.S. ARMY where he retired as Sergeant First Class and served with the 413thChemical Decon Company in Florence, SC. During his services he received the following honors: Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Sharp Shooter Marksmanship Badge. SFC WRIGHT also served his county overseas during the Gulf War. As a part of Operation Desert Storm he received the Southwest Asia service Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. He also received the NCO Professional Development Ribbon. 

   Mr. Wright leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife (QUEEN) Alberta M. Wright of the home; his children:  Anita Yvette Wright of Charlotte, NC; Alecia Michelle (Heath) Taylor of Chesapeake, VA, Taka Layla (Donald) Morris of Fort Mill, SC; seven grandchildren: Anecia Nicole (Daniel) Williams, Asaad Rujahn Graham, Eric Jonathan Wilson, Quincy Alexander Gregg, Troy Langston Sanders, Chauncey Xavier Gregg, Trenton Livingston Sanders; great grandchildren: Deion Ralston Williams, Daniel Rashad Williams II, Kendal Alexis Raquel Williams, Elias Shan Carr, Ali Armani Davis, Elani Isabella Carr, Alani Noel Davis; his brother, Otis (Trina) Wright; his sister, Mary Ann (Donnie) Bess; a sister-in-law, Mary Wright; his special aunts: Naomi (David) Pratt and Ruth (James) Dubose; his uncle, Jacob “JW” McKenzie along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

    He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Wright who preceded him in death in 2021.
