Ms. Willistine “Stine” James

With heartfelt sympathy, the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the James family announce the transition of Ms. Willistine “Stine” James of Darlington, SC. Ms. James passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC, after an illness. 

Visitation for the James family will be held at the residence, 1011 Lennon St., Darlington, SC. 

Funeral will be 12:00 PM noon, Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Lawson Grove Baptist Church, 3585 Lawson Grove Church Rd, Hartsville, SC.

Obituary

     Ms. Willistine “Stine” James was born September 15,1956, in Darlington, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Robert “Bob” James and Rosetta Jacobs James. She peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.     

     She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public School System graduating from Mayo High School with the Class of 1975/1976.

“Stine” was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, family member and friend.  She will be greatly missed by those who dearly loved her.

     Those left to cherish her memories are:  her five children:  Fonta D. James, Latoya Y. James, Shanora L. James, Travis L. James and Sonya E. James; her six sisters:  Jessie M. James, Rosa J. Wallace, Mae (Donald) Terry, Bobbie (Joseph) Williamson, Marsha Ann (Maurice) Sheppard and Rosa Mae Hickman; her one brother, Alfonza (Diane) James; her half-sister, Sarah (Randall) Campbell; a sister-in-law, Lillie Jacobs; twenty-four grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; her god-mother, Mrs. Van Jo Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

      She was preceded in death by: her parents, Robert “Bob” James and Rosetta James; three brothers:  Eddie Jacobs, John “Jay” James, and Robert “Caveman” James, Jr. and three special nephews.
