Ms. Vertie Cherry

It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Ms. Vertie Cherry of Hartsville, SC.  Ms. Cherry transitioned on Thursday, February 13, 2020 in a Hartsville medical center. 

Funeral service will be 2:00PM on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at True Saints Church of God in Christ, 428 Poole St. Hartsville, SC. Burial will follow in Faith Memorial Gardens. 

~Obituary~

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness 2Tim.4:6-8

Mrs. Vertie Mae Cherry was born December 23, 1937, in Chesterfield, SC, the daughter of Louise Woods. She received her education in Chesterfield County Public Schools. Mrs. Cherry worked as a housekeeper for more than 20 years. In her leisure she enjoyed ironing, cleaning, sewing and reading. She resided with her brother James for more than 40 years until he gained his wings in 2017. She then resided with her niece, Vanetta Williams Martin until God called her home on February 13, 2020.
Surviving to cherish the memories of Mrs. Cherry are her mother, Louise Woods; three brothers, Sandy Beasley of Rochester, NY, Willie (Pamela) Cooley and Michael Cooley both of Hartsville, SC. One sister Dorothy Mae (Darris) Evans of Hartsville, SC. A special friend, Vernay Williams of Hartsville, SC. A host of other close relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Cherry and brother James Lee Cooley.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the home of a niece, Vanetta Martin, 424 Logan Avenue, Hartsville.
