Ms. Valencia Lee Obituary

With heartfelt sympathy the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Lee family announce the transition of Ms. Valencia Lee of Lamar, SC. Ms. Lee passed on Friday, December 27, 2024 in McLeod Regional Medical Center following an illness. 

Public viewing will be 1:00-4:00 PM, Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. Chapel, 612 S. Main St, Darlington, SC.

The family is receiving condolences and friends daily from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at 105 Helen Lane, Lamar, SC. 

Funeral service will be 12:00 PM Noon, Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Lamar Church of God, 797 E Lynches River, Lamar, SC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. 

Obituary

          “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”                                                                                   II Timothy 4:7-8

     Ms. Valencia Lee was born on June 14, 1935, in Lamar, South Carolina to Eliza Jane Mashack Lee and Josey Abraham Lee. On Friday morning, December 27, 2024, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, South Carolina, Valencia was called home after an extended illness.

     Valencia received her formal education in the public schools of Darlington County. She attended Spaulding High School in Lamar, South Carolina. After high school, Valencia moved to New York City where she was employed as a home nursing attendant. In 1998, Valencia retired and returned home to Lamar to take care of her father. Upon returning home, Valencia was a member of the Lamar Church of God where she was a member of the Christian Women’s Connection.

     “Ms. V” or “Lence”, as she was affectionately called, loved her family and close friends. She enjoyed watching the news and was known for her strong opinions about hot political topics. 

     Valencia was predeceased by: her mother and father; five brothers: Ray, Ulysees, Carnell, Lawrence and Lonnie and a great-niece, Keyonna Holley.

     Valencia leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Carolyn L. (Ralph) Benjamin of the home; three granddaughters: Jawanda Lee, Tawanda Lee both of Lamar, SC and Nyshema B. Johnson of Darlington, SC; four great-granddaughters: Talyia Durant of Columbia, SC, Tonoria Durant of Lamar, SC, Miyah Johnson and McKenzie Johnson both of Darlington, SC; she is also survived by her six sisters: Fostine Jarmon of Baltimore, MD, Rudell Lyde of Lamar, SC, Pandora Phillips of Baltimore, MD, Florence Scott of Darlington, SC, Naomi Carter of Lamar, SC and Yvonne Lee of Columbia, SC; two sisters-in-law: Lillian Lee and Janie Lee;  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and countless other relatives and friends.
