Ms. Shawndala “Pumpkin” Goodson Obituary

With heartfelt sympathy, the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Goodson family announce the transition of Ms. Shawndala Monique Goodson of Darlington, SC. Ms. Goodson passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2025, at her home after an illness.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence of her aunt and uncle, Charlena and Apostle Dr. Laverne Chapman at 2060 Philadelphia Street, Darlington. 

Funeral service will be 3:00pm on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Center Baptist Church, 3420 North Sally Hill Road, Timmonsville, SC.

Obituary

    Miss Shawndala Monique Goodson, who is affectionately known as “Pumpkin”, was born July 1, 1981 in Darlington, SC, a daughter of the late William “Billy” Washington and Gloria Ann Goodson Johnson; the granddaughter of the late maternal grandparents, Charles Goodson and Edell Hickman Goodson; the late paternal grandparents, Willie Brown and Floretha Washington.   She entered into her final rest on Friday, January 24, 2025 at her residence after an illness.

       She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Lamar High School Class of 2000.  She was employed at Blue Cross Blue Shield for several years as a Process Claims Analyst.

      Shawndala accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

     “Pumpkin” loved spending time with her family, grandson, nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers in which her famous words were “Hey Bae”.  To know Pumpkin was to love Pumpkin and she always kept a smile on her face.

    Those left to cherish her precious memories are:  her daughter, Shadavia Goodson; her grandson, Saphari Tyler; two sisters: Chateka Goodson and Roshonda Goodson; two step-sisters: Renea Boyce and Alexis (Phillip) Byrd; one step-brother, Joshua (April) Davis; three aunts: Charlena (Apostle Laverne) Chapman, Geraldine (Sam) Jeffery and Patricia (Roy) Frierson; one uncle, James (Irene) Goodson; two nieces: Lailah Goodson and Shontavia Goodson; five nephews: Christavion Stephenson, Devontae Graham, Jo’Quori Brailey, Qua’Deir Brailey and Qua’Daruis Brailey; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
