Ms. Ruth B. Howard

It is with heartfelt condolences that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Ms. Ruth B. Howard of Florence, SC. Ms. Howard transitioned early Saturday morning, May 14, 2022 in a Florence hospice house. 

Funeral service is 1:00pm on Saturday, May 21, 2022 in Macedonia Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens. 

Life Reflections

    “For now I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto allthem also that love His appearing.”                        II Timothy 4:6-8

    Ms. Ruth B. Howard was born in Lake City, South Carolina (Florence County) on April 16, 1923 a daughter of the late Elliott and Barzella Gibbs Howard.  She departed this life on Saturday, May 14, 2022 in McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC after an illness.

    Ms. Howard was a devoted member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where she dutifully served on the Senior Choir, Pastor’s Aide and Usher Board.

    Ruth’s greatest joy was entertaining family and friends where she displayed her wonderful cooking skills and did so with great passion.

    She was preceded in death by: two brothers: Wylie and Jesse; five sisters: Pompei, Elease, Mary, Nettie and Ida Mae.

   Those left to cherish her memory are: a loving and devoted son, Reverend Donald L. Howard of the home; two grandchildren: Jamal Howard (Trina) and Damien Howard (Susan); three great grandchildren: Kayla, Jeremiah and Devin; as well as a host of nieces and nephews; The Aiken Family along with other beautiful relatives, neighbors and friends.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 708 Sanborn Street, Florence starting on Monday, May 16, 2022 at 12 Noon.
