It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Ms. Patricia Purnell. Ms. Purnell transitioned on Monday, December 7, 2020 in a Florence Hospital.

“For now I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which God the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.” II Timothy 4:6-8
Ms. Patricia Purnell was born in Amityville, New York on April 4, 1951 a daughter of the late Leon Purnell, Sr. and Annie Louise Williamson Purnell. She entered into her final resting place on Monday, December 7, 2020 in McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.
She received her formal education in Brooklyn, NY graduating from Maxwell High School in Brooklyn, NY.
She was employed at Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn, NY as a Morgue Attendant where she later retired.
In 2018, she moved to Darlington, South Carolina to come home to her roots.
“Roxie”, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was very spiritual and strong person. She was family orientated and loved her family dearly. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory are: her four children: Robert M. Barrow, Jr. of Lexington, NC, Audrea Newsome of Farr Rockaway, NY, Alelia Newsome of Brooklyn, NY and Christina ( Newsome-Ray of Darlington, SC; 22 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; her baby brother, Leon Purnell, Jr. of Darlington, SC; a sister, Janice Carter of Brooklyn, NY;
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Helen Taylor, Bobbie Williamson, Jimmy Johnson and Eugene Parnell, Sr.
