Obituary

“I shall not die, but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done.” ~Psalm 18:17

Ms. Mary Diane Joint, also known as “Bouncy” was born on April 5, 1963 in Darlington, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Jessie Bell Lawrence Joint and the late Monroe Joint, Sr. Mary departed from us peacefully on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 in Hartsville, SC under the care of her beloved niece and nephew, Pamela Joint Thomas and Michael Nikita Joint.

Mary received her formal education in the Darlington County Public schools graduating from Rosenwald High School in 1981 where she remained an active member of the Rosenwald Alumni Foundation. She was a multitalented woman who undertook a variety of trades. In her teenage years, like the other women in the Joint family, her first job was at Johnny’s Truck Stop in Society Hill, SC. It is no secret that Mary enjoyed the night life and hanging out with her closest friends. At Club Hideaway, Mary’s fiery personality and slick tongue earned her the legendary nickname “Bouncy.” Later, she enjoyed a career in construction with PPM, Inc also in Society Hill, SC before becoming a machine operator with Mohawk Industries in Bennettsville, SC. Following the passing of her beloved son, Ronard “Squirt” Joint, Mary was inspired to become a home health caregiver with Open Hands Nursing Agency of Florence. Mary was a born nurturer, and she flourished in her career caring for others. Therefore, she did not hesitate to care for her ill brother Monroe, sister Plum, and her beloved mother Jessie in their last days.

Survivors left to cherish her memory are: four brothers: Bernard (Yvonne) Joint, Sammie Lee Joint, Ernest (Sheila) Joint, Sr. and Levern Joint all of Darlington, SC; three sisters: Emma (Morris) Lowery, Linda Joint, and Elaine Smith all of Darlington, SC; one sister-in-law: Sharon Joint; also left to cherish her memories are her best friends: Patricia Lowe and Corinthian Smith.

“Aunt Ann” as she was affectionately known to a host of nieces and nephews did not bite her tongue or play about those she referred to as her children. She was the ideal example of the favorite auntie. Mary will forever be loved and remembered by numerous members of her extended family, the Smith, Jackson, and Gattison families. Mary was preceded in death by her father, Monroe Joint, Sr.; her mother, Jessie Bell Joint, her cherished son Ronard “Squirt” Joint, her siblings: Willie Michael Lawrence, Mary Ella Joint, Monroe “Shortman” Joint, Jr., Elizabeth “Plum” Jones, and her beloved niece Jackqueline “Moo-Moo” Lowery.

Visitation for relatives and friends are held at the residence, 3520 Squirt Drive, Dovesville Community of Darlington.

Please keep the relatives and friends of Ms. Mary Joint in your thoughts and prayers.
