Obituary

“Our memories of the water will linger on, long after our footprints in the sand are gone”, unknown Author.

Linda Towana Hudley was born in Washington, DC on January 1, 1955, daughter of the late Beaulah Mae and Willie Wilson Hudley.  Linda departed this earthly life on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Oak Haven Nursing Center in Darlington, S.C. at the age of 67 years old.

She received her formal education at Washington DC public schools graduating from Spingarn High School in 1972.  She joined the US National Guard in April 1979 at the age of 24 and served in the medical unit of the national reserves at the DC Armory for 6 years. She was honorably discharged in 1984.

Linda was employed as a correctional officer in 1980 andworked at Lorton Correctional Facility, the DC Jail, Cheltenham Juvenal Detention Center and for a brief period at Darlington Detention Center until her health began to decline.  She retired on disability in 2009 and permanently moved to SC where she lived quietly until her death.

She was a great cook and was always collecting cooking recipes. She enjoyed scary movies, reading and doing puzzles.  She was a fun loving person who had a great sense of humor but never had a problem speaking her mind. Linda was affectionately called “Little Linda’ by her family and always enjoyed spending time with them.  She was different things to different peoplesuch as a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a cousin, a foster parent, a friend and a companion and played all these roles extremelywell. She was a loving, caring person who always took the time to listen to other peoples’ problems even if she couldn’t fix any of them. Although she had a stern demeanor she was really a big ball of water that would cry at the drop of a hat. She was free spirited and made everybody feel welcome.

Those left to cherish her memory are: her only sister Brenda Hudley-Clark of Prince Georges County, Maryland, her longtime companion Walter James Brown, foster children Brandii Mitchell-Carver and Bradley Mitchell, 5 nieces Sheila Davis, Constance Latney-Fernandez, Kimm Hudley-Massey, Tonia Clark and Lynn Hudley-Kates, 3 nephews Gregory Latney, James Lloyd Latney and Reginald Clark.  Along with a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents (mentioned above), 2 sisters Agatsie Mae Latney and Gloria Dean Yeldell and one brother William Hudley Jr.  She will be missed.
