It is with heartfelt condolences that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Ms. Josephine Davis of Darlington, SC. Ms. Davis passed on Sunday, April 3, 2022 in the Medical University of South Carolina-Columbia following an illness.
Funeral service is 2:00pm on Sunday, April 10, 2022 in New Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery. Interment will follow. Please adhere to mask wearing for this service.
Visitation will be 6:00pm -8:00pm on Saturday, April 9, 2022 in the Chapel of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc.
JOSEPHINE DAVIS
Josephine Davis, daughter of the late Leola Cannon Marks was born May 11, 1939, in Darlington County, SC. She departed this life on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at the MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center.
Josephine attended Darlington County Public Schools. She was a member of Snow Hill Baptist Church in Florence, SC and a past member of Peaceful Missionary Baptist Church in Timmonsville, SC. In July of 1955, she was united in marriage to Frank Davis, Jr. This union was blessed with three daughters.
Josephine worked in various industries and started her career in sewing at Wentworth’s of Florence and retired from MSD, Inc. in Darlington. She later volunteered for Meals on Wheels and worked with the Darlington County Council on Aging.
Josephine’s love of God and family shined brightly throughout her life. Her sweet spirit attracted young and old, and she never met a stranger. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, arts and crafts, making floral arrangements, and listening to and singing gospel music. She was a founding member of Peaceful Missionary Baptist Church and served as church treasurer and president of the gospel choir for many years.
Josephine was preceded in death by a daughter JoAnn Davis Dargan, brother Willie Jackson, Jr., sister Henretta Jackson and grandson GySgt Anthony Dargan. To cherish her memories are two daughters, Judy Baskett and Mae Sims of Columbia, SC, a son-in-law, Calvin Dargan of Darlington, SC, four grandchildren, Benardo J. Dargan of Raleigh, NC, Monique Narine of Tampa, FL, and TyMaya and Mason Sims of Columbia, SC, granddaughter-in-law, Erika Dargan of Houston, TX, five great grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins and friends.
There is no visitation at this time.
