It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Ms. Frances Smith of Darlington.  Ms. Smith slipped away on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at her residence.  

 

The family of Ms. Frances E. Smith in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, would love to be surrounded by your presence. They acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic health conditions and ask that those who attend the service ensure you are wearing BOTH MASKS AND GLOVES and practice social distancing.  During this time, the family needs mostly your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.

Funeral service will be 3:00PM on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 in the church yard of Flat Creek Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in the cemetery. 

~Obituary~

     Ms. Frances Edith Smith was born in Darlington County on October 21, 1960 a daughter of the late Caldonia Smith and Willie Wallace. She was also cared and rear as daughter of the late Johnny (Tank) Samuel. She departed this earthly life on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 after a sudden illness.

      She received her education in the Darlington County public school system. Frances was very well known in the Pineville community where she will dearly be missed.

     She was a member of the Flat Creek Baptist Church. Through the years she worked various jobs as a cook until her health declined.

     To know her was to love her. She had a smile that will bright up the whole room. Frances was very loving caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved to cook, have fun and she will always tell you like it was and would never hold back what was on her mind. 

     She was married to Sammie Lee McCoy and to this union they were blessed with five children.

     Those left to cherish her memories are: her loving companion of 35+ years, Ulysses Richardson, her five loving sons, Sammy Smith of Florence, SC, Danny Smith of Darlington, SC, Willie (Mary) McCoy of Charleston, SC, Hayward (Nicole) McCoy of Thomasville, NC, and Jimmy Lee McCoy of Darlington, SC; a grandson, Jacob Brantley  that she rear as her own, Twelve grandchildren; two brothers: Gary (Myia) Smith and Timothy (Claudene) Smith; seven sisters: Gloria Acrum, Janice (Lamont) McPherson, Carolyn Smith, Cassandra (Steve) Banks, Angela Smith, Annette Smith, and Shirley Pierce; a very special niece, Jamie Smith; her god-son whom she loved so much, Ja’nerius Sanders; a sister-in-law and best friend, Patty Contee; special close friends: Edith McNeil, Patricia Durant, Diane McCall; a host of nieces, nephews, other close relatives and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; her son: Travis McCoy; her brothers and sisters: John “Junior” Smith, Vinson Smith, Thomas Johnson, Johnnie Mae Stembridge, Wilhelmenia Davis and Roshell Wallace; two nephews: Delvin Smith and James Collins.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 645 Westside Avenue, Darlington.
