Ms. Floretha "Sudda" Washington

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Washington family share the passing of Ms. Floretha "Sudda" Washington of Darlington.  Ms. Washington exchanged time for eternity on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at McLeod Regional Medical Center following an illness. 

Funeral service is 12:00 Noon on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Final Disposition will follow in the Church Cemetery. 

Obituary

    Ms. Floretha Washington was born April 21, 1944 in Darlington, SC a daughter of the late Walter Washington and Carrie Rush Washington.  She entered into her eternal rest on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.

   She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public School System.  She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of  Reverend  Thomas, where she accepted Christ as her personal Savior.

    “Sudda”, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, loved her family and she loved cooking for her family.  She cooked for everybody and was famous for her Cornbread Dressing that she prepared at every holiday.  “Sudda” didn’t meet a stranger and would give you the shirt off her back to help you.  Floretha will be missed by all those that knew and loved her.

   Floretha was preceded in death by her son, William Washington and a daughter, Kimberly Washington.

    Those left to cherish her memory are:  her children:  Herbert Lee Washington, 
Carolyn Washington, Carlin Washington all of Darlington, SC and Marlin Washington of Calhoun, GA; three grandchildren she reared as her own: Shameeka Washington, Stevie Washington and Shykien Wright all of Darlington, SC; two brothers: George MCMillian and Jack McMillian both of  Portmouth, VA; thirteen grandchildren; great grandchildren; a special great granddaughter who helped in her care, Hakia McPhail; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; three special nieces: Patricia Damon, Julia Bonaparte both of Darlington, SC and Letha Skinner of Florida.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence of a granddaughter, Shameeka Washington, 701 Joe Louis Blvd, Darlington, SC.
