Ms. Florence Brenda (Thomas) Ishmael

With heartfelt sympathy, the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Ishmael family announce the transition of Ms. Florence Brenda Ishmael of Darlington, SC. Ms. Ishmael peacefully transitioned Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC, after an illness.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the residence, 729 Wilcox St, Darlington, SC. 

Graveside funeral service will be held 12:00 pm noon,  Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Faith Memorial Gardens, Rogers Rd, Darlington, SC.

Obituary

    “For I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight.  I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”             II Timothy 4:6-7

    Ms. Florence Brenda Thomas Ishmael, the daughter of the late George and Nancy Ratliff Thomas, was born October 30, 1950, in Darlington, South Carolina. Brenda departed this earthly life on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC after an extended illness.

    She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1968.  She furthered her education at Limestone College and Florence-Darlington Technical College.

    Brenda accepted Christ in her youth and joined Round O Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as head of the Kitchen Committee until her declining health.

    The former Florence Brenda Thomas was united in marriage to Eddie “Tony” Ishmael and to this union two adorable sons was born, Anthony and Eric.

    She was gainfully employed in Florence and Darlington Counties.  Her last employment before becoming disabled was at Honda of Florence, Inc.

    She leaves to cherish her unforgettable memories are:  two sons:  Anthony Ishmael (Catrina) and Eric Ishmael (LaVetry) both of Darlington, SC; a special granddaughter, N’Jaysia Ishmael of the home; grandchildren: Daysha McCurrry, Kelvin Jackson, Kelvin Jeffery, and Kenneth Dubose all of Darlington, SC, Shaniya Simmons of Charlotte, NC, and Twane Jackson of Detroit, MI; two special nieces, Jamila Thomas of Charlotte, NC and Francis Isaac; special great nephew and niece: Tyler Thomas and Kyann Sparks both of Charlotte, NC; a close cousin, Terry Harrell of Darlington, SC; a very special friend, Smiley Gregg of Florence, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

    She was preceded in death by:  three sisters:  Patricia Jackson, Georgia Stroman, and Beverly Thomas; one brother, Steven Thomas.
