It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Ms. Ella Mae Jackson of Bronx, NY, formally of Darlington. “Mudda” as she was affectionately called transitioned peacefully at her residence in the Harlem, New York.
Funeral service is 12 Noon Saturday, April 8, 2023 in Gandy Cemetery. Interment will follow.

Ms. Ella Mae Jackson , a daughter of the late Wille and Agnes Patterson Jackson. She was born on April 25, 1940 in Darlington, South Carolina. Ella Mae peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 23, 2023. She was surrounded by her loved ones.
Ella Mae moved to Harlem , New York in the early 1960’s . She was employed as a Home Attendant.
Mudda, or Meady, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister , aunt, and friend. She had a heart of gold, and told you like it was! To know Mudda was to love her. She loved her grandchildren passionately. Mudda was known for her excellent cooking. Also, for her love of music . She owned an extensive music collection.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her beloved and devoted campanion, Henry Loyner who preceded her in death; her loving children, Philip Jackson of Darlington, SC, Barbara Ann Jackson of Darlington, SC, (preceded in death), and Mary Agnes Jackson of Harlem, NY; eight loving grandchildren, Shanice, Derrick, Darelle, Shania, Shamekia, Lucreatia, Kendrick, and Shakida; honorable grand Lillian ;Sariah (Nana’s Baby), and eleven other great-grandbabies; one surviving brother, Ervin Jackson of Darlington, SC; seven siblings preceded in death, Fannie Mae Wilds, Willie Jackson, Earline Jackson, Ralph Jackson, Larry Jackson, Jessie Mae, and Robert Jackson; a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
God saw the road was getting rough,
And the hills too hard to climb,
So, He gently closed Ella Mae’s weary eyes,
And whispered, “Peace be thine.”
