It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Ms. Doris McCoy of Florence.  Ms. McCoy transitioned on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at her residence.  

Funeral service is 10:00AM on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Darlington Memory Gardens. Interment will follow.  Please adhere to mask wearing and social distancing.

Doris “Ann” McCoy was born on July 21, 1954 in Hartsville, SC in Darlington County to John Rufus “MC” McCoy and Dorothy Mae Johnson-Thomas. Doris transitioned this life for the next on April 3, 2021. She is the Beloved mother to Arlando and ConQuista McCoy. She graduated and received her Diploma from Mayo High School May 30, 1975 in Darlington, SC. She was a college graduate from Passaic County Community College in Paterson, NJ with a Major in Human Services w/ a Concentration in Drug and Substance Abuse Counseling. She poses an Associates in Science Degree.

Her ultimate desire and goal was to become a Human Resource Representative. She completed a 14 week Human Services Fieldwork Program at Eva’s Shelter and Village for Substance and Alcohol Abuse Victims. She was the NRC Charm School, Inc. Hospitality Committee Chairwoman. Inspiring mothers and daughters to reconnect, seek God and greatness in their lives. She was a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

Doris was employed at St Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, NJ as a Staffing Clerk and then a Patient Care Assistant from 1976 to 2006. She was employed at Carolina Hospital from 2009 to 2020 as a Nursing Assistant where she retired at the age of 66.

Her 1st born child was Arlando McCoy, his children are Quinton “Q” Breedon, Latasha “Tata” Jackson, Branden and Justin Smart, Cross and Roman McCoy. Her Great-Granddaughters are Ariyah Lattimore, Esmeralda, and Leianna Smart and her Great-Grandson Jayce Smart. Her 2nd child ConQuista McCoy 1st born child is Kiara De’Avion McCoy-Lee, Akasha Aaliyah Hernandez, Akyrah ConQuista Cooper-McCoy.

Siblings are as follows:

1. Alfonser Johnson - “Preceded her in death” on 7/19/2020; 2. Supreme “Pre” Johnson-O’Neal

3. Delores “Lois” McCoy-Barcus; 4. Jerry Murray - “Preceded her in death” on 1/3/2021;

5. Larry “June” McCoy; 6. Michael Thomas; 7. Tina McCoy-Alexander; 8. Anthony “Christopher” Pompey -

“Preceded her in death” on 12/2/2004

She has a host of special dedicated and loyal nieces she helped raised in the same household in Paterson, NJ...Lynette, Dorothy, Hannah “Tasha” Mary Johnson, LaTonya, Tameka McCoy and her 1st great-niece Syneekwa “Ebony” Johnson, Ka’ Shayia Thomas, Sierra McCoy, Whitney Coleman, Nyra Thompson, Africa Murray, 1st Class Army Specialist Khadijah Fatima Secka and Crystal Pompey.

Her Great-nephews are Gerard Murray, Jerrell Robinson, Isaiah Thomas, MaurQuise & Mark Johnson(deceased), Khilyni Kennedy, Amir Artis, and Yasen Secka. The Great-Great nieces are Sarae Butler, Madisen-Ann Johnson, Zara and Zayna Johnson-Hamlet, Zariya White, Zylar Abbott, McKenzie Ava-Li Johnson, Ava Thompson-Cobb, Aryn Thompson-West, Kazmere Samuel, and a great-great nephews are Zaire Johnson, Kaydien Thomas, Zaydian Shank, Kylon Butler, and Myzear Johnson.

Doris was united in matrimony to Timothy Wallace on 9/6/2003. The marriage was dissolved on 5/10/2006.

She was a wonderful, kind-hearted woman of faith with good Christian values who always had a pleasant smile for everyone. Doris loved the beach, the ocean was her relief and relaxation from worries of life. She was well-traveled around the world and enjoyed gardening in Mother Earth.
