Ms. Cornelia B. "Goo" McCullum

It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Ms. Cornelia "Goo" McCullum of Darlington, SC.  Ms. McCullum passed on Monday, August 23, 2021 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Florence following a brief illness. 

Funeral service is 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Faith Memorial Gardens.  Interment will follow.  Please adhere to social distancing and mask wearing during this service. 

Obituary

Ms. Cornelia B. McCullum, better known as “Goo”, was born August 14, 1938 in Lamar, South Carolina a daughter of the late Willie McCullum and Chessie Wilson.  She departed this life on Monday, August 23, 2021 at the Medical University of South Carolina Health Medical Center, Florence, SC.
   
She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools where she attended Spaulding School, Lamar, SC and finishing her education in New York City.  There, she worked as a home attendant.  Also while in New York she was a member of the Elks – Past Daughter Ruler and a member of the Order of Eastern Star – Associate Maiden of Queens, New York. After leaving New York, she made her home in Alachua, Florida where she was employed as a Foster Grandparent at the school for children.  Finally, she returned back to South Carolina.

“Goo” was loved by many and will be sadly missed. She loved playing cards, dancing and family gatherings. She spoke her mind and have very few people she would challenge. Those that know her know she earn her name “Goo”. 

Those left to cherish her memory are:  five daughters: Clara Mae Yates (Joan Amos), Iva Mae Petty, Barbara Jean McCullum (Leroy Sowell), Elizabeth McKeller (Terrance Dudley) and Judy McKeller (John Burrell); her siblings:  Daily McCullum (Pamela McCullum),  George McCullum (Toosie), Theola Commander (Thomas Commander, deceased), Bernetha Tynes (Charles Tynes, deceased), Helen McCullum and Irene McCullum-Hines (Joseph Hines); a sister-in-law, Emma McCullum; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who mourns her passing.
 
She was preceded in death by: her siblings: Willie James McCullum, Carolyn McCullum, Wesley McCullum, Tommy Lee McCullum and Michael McCullum.
