Obituary
Ms. Cora Lee Chapman was born in Hartsville, South Carolina on November 29, 1943 to the late Nehemiah Davis and Mae Willis Wingate Davis. My mother passed into eternity on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at her home in Darlington, SC.
She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating with honors from Mayo High School Class of 1961. Later in life, she furthered her education at Florence-Darlington Technical College's information technology program earning an Associates Degree.
Mama was a dedicated employee of ESAB Corp. (formerly Union Carbide and L-Tec). She worked in the quality inspection department as well as served on the Credit Union and Employee Recreation boards. She held leadership positions with the local chapter of the Quality Association of America. She also worked with the Darlington County Elections Office. She did tax preparation at home as well as sewing. Countless cakes, pies and an occasional turtle were lovingly prepared in her Chestnut Street home and shared with family, friends and co-workers.
She loved New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church and she loved serving as an Usher. When it comes to ushering in the Pee Dee area, in the State and on the National level, Mama redefined the word dedicated. She stood ready to serve the people of God.
Those left to cherish the memories of the life of Cora Lee Chapman are: a son, Clarence Chapman, Jr. (Mandy) formerly of Richmond, Virginia; a beloved and dedicated granddaughter Milagros "Millie" Lee Gonzalez Chapman (Tiffany) of Durham, NC; a brother, Woodrow Davis (Betty) of Darlington, SC; a beautiful bonus granddaughter, Migdalia Paris Deyo (Thomas Jefferson IV) of Richmond, VA; Millie and Migdalia's mother, Wendy Chapman Smith of Henrico, Virginia; sisters-in-law: Joan Davis (Monroe, deceased), Anne Davis (Henry, deceased), Mary Ruth (Freddie) Simmons all of Darlington, SC; numerous nieces and nephews that she loved very much and countless cousins spanning from the Washington DC area to the Carolinas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Monroe Davis and Henry Davis.
We need to recognize some very special people also left to cherish Mama's memory: Evelyn Coe and the Jett Family; Eleanor Josey Sims and her children; former co-workers/friends: Alberta Plowden & family, Barbara Pendergrass & family, Nan Richardson & family and Johnny Roberts; our kind and caring Chestnut Street neighbors.
Please keep the relatives and friends of Mrs. Cora Lee Davis Chapman in your thoughts and prayers.
