Obituary

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyers, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall be any more pain, for the former things are passed away.”                                                                                                         – Revelations 21:4

Ms. Bettye Joyce Hammonds Coe was born in Darlington County, SC  on September 24, 1940, the second of four children of the late Dewey and Lealer Williams Hammonds. On Friday, July 16, 2021 she took her flight from this world as she knew it to higher grounds to be with the Lord.

She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public School System graduating from Spaulding High School in Lamar, South Carolina.

At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined Lawson Grove Baptist Church. After relocating to New Jersey, she was associated with Thankful Baptist Church for many years.

In 1958, Bettye was joined in holy matrimony to the late Richard Lee Coe and this union was blessed with four children, two sons: Randy and Ronnie and two daughters: Rinda and Renee.

While in Paterson, New Jersey, she was employed for 35 years at Bergen County Hospital as a Dietician. After retirement, she moved back to South Carolina and reunited with Lawson Grove Baptist Church until her health declined.  After her health declined, she moved to New Jersey with her daughter, Renee, who tenderly cared for her until her passing.

Bettye had a kind, pleasing personality and she never met a stranger. She had many friends both in South Carolina and New Jersey where she lived for many years. But most of all, Bettye loved her family; to know her was to loved her dearly.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memories are: her two daughters: Rinda Bettina (Ralph) Ronne of South Carolina and Renee Celestine Coe of Paterson, New Jersey; eleven grandchildren: Ronnie  (Maritza) Coe, Jr., Tiquana (Derrick) Williams, Queshema Austin,  Keith Austin all of Florida, Daasean(Michelle) Adams, Rudell (Zakiyya) Coe, Rasheen Coe, Joy Coe, Martice Taylor all of New Jersey, Dr. Meranda Coe and Jovon Gregg Taylor both of South Carolina; great grandchildren: Ashanti Coe, Brooke Coe, Aden Coe, Sahla Pope, RickiiTownes, Kaloni Townes, Aubree Coe, Ka’Nyi Coe, Johnny Johnson, Jahiem Johnson, Jamitrius Johnson, Tavon Cooper, Travon Cooper, Kavon Cooper, George Schanck, Geordan Schanck, Ronni Coe, Victor Coe, Sir’Christian Snell, Talayla Snell, Tiqua’ja Austin, Fantaysia Snell, Daquan Adams, Jaleel Adams, A’Kielah Adams, Daajeon’ea Adams, Daviana Adams, and Jovon G.
