Ms. Bernie Mae Lucas

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Ms. Bernie Mae Lucas of Darlington. Ms. Lucas expired on Saturday, October 25, 2019 at her residence. 

Funeral service will be 1:30pm on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Christ Temple Holiness Church. 

                                     ~Obituary~

     “For now I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.”                   II Timothy 4:6-8
    Ms. Bernie Mae Lucas was born April 17, 1959 in Darlington, South Carolina a daughter of the late Carl and Evelyn Lucas Samuel.  She entered into her final resting place on Friday, October 25, 2019 at her residence.
     She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public School System graduating from Mayo High School.
     Bernie worked various jobs with childcare as she had a love for all children she came in contact with.  She also worked at Vocational Rehab Center in Hartsville, SC.
     “Gucci” or “Goot”, as she was affectionately called was a sweet and loving person who was loved by many.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
     She was preceded in death in addition to her parents: three brothers: Bernice Lucas of Brooklyn, NY, Arthur Lee “Booda” Lucas of Columbia, SC and James Edward “Boy” Lucas of Darlington, SC; a god-sister, Mary Satchel Ford of Darlington, SC.
      Those who shared the joys of life with her and survived to cherish her memory are:  her children: Tiffany (Corey) Lucas, Sheldon (Rhonda) Lucas both of Darlington, SC and Stephen (Tammy) Lucas of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Marie (Ernest) Grooms of Darlington, SC; seven grandchildren: Shelniya Lucas, Sheldric Lucas, Kadesha Lucas all of Darlington, SC, Kirsten Lucas, Deysia Smith, Charisma Smith and Ailayah Smith all of Atlanta, GA; two sisters-in-law, Avon Lucas of Brooklyn, NY and Beverly Lucas of Darlington, SC; three special nieces: Sophia (Robert) Gregg of Darlington, SC, Sabrina Satchel and Stephany (Tim) Satchel-Franklin both of Atlanta, GA; a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins.  Also left to mourn her passing are: other family members, friends, members of the Community to cherish precious moments that was shared with her.

Visitation for the Lucas Family will be held at her residence, 104 Court Street, Darlington.
