Mrs. Thelma Miles Flynn

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mrs. Thelma Miles Flynn of Darlington. Mrs. Miles transitioned on Tuesday night, July 21, 2020 in a Florence hospital. 

Funeral service will be 1:00pm on Sunday, July 26, 2020 in Darlington Memorial Cemetery (City Cemetery- D- Avenue), Darlington. Interment will follow. Masks wearing and social distancing is required. 
 

Obituary

 

    “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.  For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven.

    Ms. Thelma L. Miles Flynn was born in Palo Alto, California on May 8, 1956 a daughter of the late Jacob L. Miles, Sr. and Peggy Saunders Miles.  She entered into her final resting place on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at The Medical University of South Carolina, Florence, SC.

    The family moved back to Darlington, SC where Thelma received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1974. Thelma was employed with DuPont, of which she retired. 

    She was united in marriage to the late Roosevelt Flynn, Jr.; this union was blessed with two children.

    Thelma was preceded in death by her parents: Peggy Miles and Jacob Miles, Sr.; her grandmother who was affectionately called, “Sugar Mama”, Thelma K. Grant-Lucas; her siblings: Juanita M. Miles-Conley, Portia Mary Miles, Juliette Miles McCray and Calvin A. Miles.

   Those left to share the memories and love of Thelma are:  her son, Lawrence B. Flynn; her daughter, Laronda C. Flynn; her grandchildren: LaMontrelle J. Warren and Justin M. Flynn; a great granddaughter, Madison J. Warren; her sisters: Patricia Ford, Jackie Stanley, Helen Jett, Sherri Miles and Vanessa Miles; her brothers: Baxter Kirven, Kelvin Miles, Jeffrey Miles and Jacob Miles, Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; a special neighbor and friend, Albert Wingate.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 2200 Boyd St. Darlington.
