Obituary

On August 8, 1928, God blessed Ruby Mae “Ruth” Hudson, a beautiful baby girl to Albertus and Rainey Hudson. Mrs. Ruby Mae Hudson Poole started her life in Darlington, South Carolina. She transitioned from labour to reward on Friday, January 22, 2021 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.

“Ruth”, as she was affectionately called, received her formal education from the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1949.  After graduating, “Ruth” attended Cosmetology School where a degree was obtained.

At an early age, she attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  She then transitioned to New Providence Baptist Church.  During this time, “Ruth” accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior under the leadership of Reverend Judge Pearson.  As “Ruth” walked in her faith and trust in God she served in many auxiliaries.  Ruth served with humility and smile as she took on many opportunities to serve. “Ruth” worked faithfully on the Usher Board, upon that time held the title as the treasure was given to her.  She also served on the Kitchen Committee, the Choir and anywhere else she could serve in the ministry.  “Ruth” never wavered in her faith, trust and strength in Jesus Christ.  “Ruth” loved the Lord as well as her church family.

“Ruth” held many jobs during her time of serving.  She worked at Nytronics, Oakhaven Nursing Home and one of the jobs that she loved the most was her 22 years as cook for the Darlington County School District. Ruth blessed people at the Brunson and Dargan Junior High School where she prepared many meals.  “Ruth” loved to cook for her family and friends.  She was famous for many dishes.  But you could not beat Ma Ruth with her awesome pans of peach cobbler.  Ruth retired from the Darlington County School District.  She did not stop there, she was asked to assist Mrs. Lillian Goodson and stayed until passing away.

Ma Ruth then stayed home and nurtured her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and so many family members.  Ma Ruth loved baseball, her sister along with other family and friends enjoyed a good game.  She got to travel across the world when Orlando was blessed to become a major league baseball player.  She kept her bags packed and did not miss out on an opportunity to see him play baseball.

Ruby was joined in holy matrimony to the late Boyd Poole, Sr. and to this union they were blessed with four children, Leonwood  Poole, Julius Poole both of the home and Boyd (Geraldine) Poole, Jr.; a daughter preceded her in death, BertellPoole.  She reared a son, Marcus (Mae Alice) Hudson and an adopted son, Michael (Joyce) Everett.  Mae Ruth grandchildren:  Gerard (Alexandria) Poole, Jereld Poole, Taryn (Idris) Enizer, Alnesa Poole and Imani Poole; great grandchildren: Sol Poole, Aailiyah Enizer and Nailah Enizer.  Ruth also leaves to cherish her memories: her sister and best friend, Helen “Clara)” Robinson; sisters-in-law: Catherine Poole-Smith and Mary Coe Poole; a host of nieces, nephews, along with an abundance of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her siblings: Roosevelt (Virginia) Hudson, Robert Hudson, Junious (Catherine) Hudson, Thill (Fannie Mae) Hudson and Randolph (Lucille) Hudson.
