It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Simon and Spann families announce the passing of Mrs. Rose Mary Simon Spann of Darlington. Mrs. Spann peacefully transitioned on Wednesday afternoon, November 08, 2023 at her residence following a brief illness.
Funeral service is 12 Noon on Monday, November 13, 2023 at New Providence Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Hoodfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Rose Mary Simon Spann was born in Darlington, South Carolina on February 22, 1954. She was daughter of the late James Simon and Mary (Mamie) Lee Jackson Simon. She entered the final resting place on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.
She received her education in Darlington County Public Schools, graduating from Mayo High School, Class of 1972. Rose Mary continued her education at Denmark Technical College. At an early age, she was converted, baptized and joined New Providence Baptist Church, where she was a member of the usher board.
Rose Mary was employed by Darlington County School District as a bus driver, Oak Haven Nursing Home as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and retired from New Generations Adult Day Center as the Administrative Assistant to the late Gail B. Belissary.
Rose Mary was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and aunt. She will be greatly missed by her family, neighbors, and friends. To know Rose was to love her.
Those who shared the joys of life with her and survive to cherish her memory are: a daughter, Shekeitha Simon; two sons, James Spann (Michelle) of West Chester, New York and Dantorius Spann of Darlington, South Carolina; a special nephew like a son, Zereadi Simon; 14 grandchildren- two whom she helped raised, Trinity Simon and Lyric Simon, Arial Byrd, Paije Gardner, James Spann, Jayden Spann, Jeremiah Spann, Jayson Spann, Jasper Spann, Zyra Spann, Zyliyah Spann, Imani Spann, Indonesia Rouse, and Tyquall Rouse; a cousin like a brother, Reverend Emanuel (Ann) Simon of Bishopville, South Carolina; two aunts, Mary Robinson and Oliva Simon, both of Baltimore, Maryland; one niece, Mia (Mike) Graham of Dovesville, South Carolina; a nephew, Eugene (Ayanna) Williams, Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina; four sisters-in-law: Janie (Dealous) Rush, Sarah James, Mary (Eddie) Isaac, and Sheila (Sammie) Epps; two brothers-in-law, Eddie James (Mary) Durant and Eric (Jackie) Durant; close friends: Kim Williams, Richard Williams, Martha Ann Hudson, Willa Nelson, and a devoted neighbor, Florence Mango, a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Rose Mary was preceded in death by: her parents, James and Mamie Simon; her husband, Ernest Spann; two sisters, Bertha Simon Williams and Willa Mae Simon.
Wake service is 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Sunday, November 12, 2023 in the Chapel of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc.
