Mrs. Rosa Mae Jennings

It is with heartfelt sympathy that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Jennings family announce the passing of Mrs. Rosa Mae Jennings of Bishopville, SC. Mrs. Jennings passed away peacefully the morning of Saturday, August 31, 2024, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC. 

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 7, 2024, in Spaulding Middle School, 400 E Cartersville Hwy, Lamar, SC. Interment to follow at Plaza Memorial Cemetery, Plaza Rd, Lamar, SC.

Obituary

      Mrs. Rosa Mae Anderson Jennings also affectionately known to her family and friends as “Mutt” was born on October 7, 1947 in Lee County, South Carolina a daughter of the late Lee and Letha Laws Anderson . She departed this earthly life on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC.

     Rosa received her formal education in Darlington County Public Schools System attending Spaulding High School.

     Rosa resided in Brooklyn, NY and later migrated to Flint, Michigan for many years, where she became a full-time homemaker to her loving and growing family.  She later made her home in Columbus, GA. 2016 brought the family’s beloved, “Mutt” back to South Carolina and she enjoyed attending family gatherings; naturally making people laugh and being the life of the party. She never met a stranger and she cherished her children and grandchildren.

     Rosa was preceded in death by: her loving husband, Bernard Jennings; sisters: Rebecca Anderson, Shirley Anderson Robinson and Herlene Anderson Maple; brothers: Sam Anderson, George Anderson, Leroy Anderson, Brian Anderson, Robert “Skeeter” Anderson, Herbert Anderson and Isaac Anderson; a son, Bernard Jennings, Jr.

      Those left to cherish Rosa’s memories are: her daughters: Wanda A. (Samuel III) Dixon of Darlington, SC, Connie Dennson of Columbus, GA, Letisha (Rasheen) McCullers of Ft. Mitchell, AL and Annette (Charles) Jennings Nelson of Columbus, GA; one son, Ronate Anderson of Flint, MI; five sisters: Mary Durant of Bishopville, SC, Eleanor Jones, Barbara A. Bacote, Dorothy (Joshua) White all of Lamar, SC and Elder Minnie Price of Florence, SC; her grandchildren: Kyrah Michael, Danniqua Dennson, Danquisha Dennson, Nijah Fortune, Shema Sewer, Ronate Anderson, Jr., Dewana Anderson, Kayce Sewer, Lori Sewer, John Berrocal, James McCullers, Julianna McCullers, Kameron Dixon, Daevon Latimore, Sydney Price, Simon Jennings and Kayla Nelson; great-grands: Zaria Mack-Contee, Raymond Contee Jr., Damari Fortune,  A’nyah Fortune, Dylan Woodham, Milo Latimore and Milani Latimore; several sisters and brothers-in-laws; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; other close family and friends.

     The family of Rosa Mae Jennings would also like to express their appreciation to the staff of McLeod Hospice House of Florence, SC for their compassion and care provided.

Starting Wednesday, September 4th from 2-6 PM daily, the family will receive condolences and friends at the home located at 534 S. Lee St, Apt C-104, in Bishopville, SC.
