With heartfelt sympathy, Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Scott family announce the passing of Mrs. Rosa Lee Scott of Darlington, SC. Mrs. Scott transitioned Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC.
The family is receiving friends at the home, 215 Magnolia St, Darlington, SC.
Public viewing will be held 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Friday, March 6, 2026, at Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., 612 S Main St, Darlington, SC.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Unionville AME Church, 1330 Swimming Pen Rd, Mayesville, SC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Obituary
Mrs. Rosa Lee Anderson Scott was born on March 18, 1947, in Lynchburg, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Marion and Louise Durant Anderson. She was the eighth of twelve children. She entered into her final resting place Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC.
Rosa, affectionately called “Weezy and “Pie” by family and friends, received her formal education in Lee County Public Schools System and a 1965 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School in Elliott, SC.
On August 14, 1966, she married the love of her life, Walter Scott, Sr. After a visit to New York, the young couple decided to begin their new life together there. Soon after, they welcomed their first child, the late Sherean “Sharon” Scott, on July 18, 1967. On October 26, 1975, they were blessed with a son, Walter Scott, Jr.
Rosa pursued various career paths in New York. She worked at Mays Department Store as both a cashier and manager before answering her true calling in health care. She served faithfully as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for over 25 years at Brooklyn and Queens Nursing Home in Brooklyn, NY. Rosa was deeply loved and respected by her colleagues and the many residents whose lived she touched through her compassion and care.
Family was the center of Rosa’s world. Surrounded by loved ones on Lexington Avenue and in Sumner Housing. Her home was always filled with laughter, warmth and the aroma of home cooked Southern meals. She enjoyed traveling and creating memories, taking fun trips to places like Atlantic City, New Jersey, and the Baltimore Crab Festival. Rosa had a gift for bringing people together and making everyone feel welcome and loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louise and Marion Anderson; her daughter, Sherean “Sharon” Scott; her grandson, Jamell “Shawn” Scott; five sisters: Annie Lee Glover, Maggie Johnson, Elizabeth Richardson, Geneva Scarborough and Margaret McDuffie; and one brother, Leon Anderson.
Those left to cherish her loving memory are: her devoted husband of 60 years: Walter Scott, Sr.; her son, Walter Scott, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Marybell Scott; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren; three sisters: Mary Roberts, Patricia Allen and Evelina Edmund; two brothers: Odell Anderson and Marion Anderson; three sisters-in-law: Jackie Anderson, Thelma Bradley and Marylee Scott; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; extended family members; two very special friends, Sandy White and Bessie Sowell; other dear friends whose lives that was touched by her loved and generosity.
Rosa built a life rooted in faith, family, compassion, and joy. God has taken one of His best, but her love, legacy, and beautiful spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
