The Obituary

“For now I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.”                        II Timothy 4:6-8

Mrs.  Mary Lee Samuel was born in Darlington County, South Carolina on November 15, 1929.  She was the daughter of the late Ransom Jackson and Mamie Moses. She entered into her eternal rest peacefully at home on Thursday, October 20, 2022.

She received her education in the public schools in Darlington, S.C. In her earlier years, she was a domestic worker and years later she was employed with Quality Inn and Suites of Florence, S.C. where she retired.

In her earlier years of life, she joined along with her husband at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Darlington, S.C. Years later, she became a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she was a very dedicated member. She was a member of the Outreach Ministry, Pastor’s Aide and the Senior Choir. Mary being the Matriarch of her family was loving and caring but firm. As a prayerful servant of God, she tried to instill in her children and grands about living a life that is pleasing to God. Those who knew her were aware of how she loved listening to her gospel music and reading her Bible. We would hear Mary saying “I must be doing something right for God to still have me here for these many long years.” The family is so grateful for the many words of wisdom that she has bestowed upon them and will cherish them forever.

Her loving memories are cherished by:  her two loving daughters: Mary Ruth (Levern) Williams and Ella Mae Samuel; one sister, Rosemary Brown of Brooklyn, N.Y; four sisters-in-law: Rosena Samuel of Darlington, S.C., Rena K. Martin of Arlington, Texas, Celestine Samuel and Jackie Graham both of Baltimore, M.D. She has seven grandchildren; Tracy Samuel, Shawn Williams, Marlon (Blondine) Samuel, Veronica (Frederick) Samuel, Robert (Malinda) Samuel, Lakeisha Samuel and Eric Samuel; fourteen great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren; a special friend, Dorothy Pratt, Berronica Farmer a special caregiver; a host of other relatives and friends who will dearly miss her.

She was preceded in death by: her husband Hosea Samuel, their daughter Mamie Samuel; a brother, Willie J. Martin, Sr. and a sister, Mary Benjamin.
