THE OBITUARY

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Thomas Blanchett, of Mt. Clemens, Michigan, was born on February 15, 1942, in Darlington County, South Carolina. On September 8, 2025, at McLaren Medical Center in Mt. Clemens, she gained her Heavenly wings and was called to eternal rest.

Mary was educated in the Darlington County public school system and graduated from Rosenwald High School. At an early age, she attended Round O Baptist Church in Darlington, South Carolina.  On August 12, 1968, she was united in marriage to Artis Blanchett, with whom she shared 50 years of love and devotion. To this union, three beloved sons were born, and they also raised a daughter and another son.

A passionate gardener, Mary found joy in nurturing both indoor and outdoor plants. Her love extended far beyond her garden—she was deeply committed to helping others and devoted to her family. She worked for many years at Brechteen Co. before retiring and continued her life of service by caring for residents at an adult care home.

From the mid-1970s onward, Mary was a faithful servant of Christ and an active member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Clemens, where she proudly served on the Usher Board.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Marie Thomas Lowery and Johnny McNeil; her beloved husband, Artis Blanchett; two brothers, Robert "Sonny" Lowery and John Henry Thomas; five sisters, Lois "Sissy" Collins, Helen "Sister" Harkless, Ruby Bush, Beatrice Addison, and Eva Lee "Doll Baby" Lowery; and her daughter, Joyal "Mookie" Collins McLaurin.

Mary is survived by her children: Darryl Antonio Blanchett (Pam) of Bay City, MI, Jodie L. Blanchett of Mt. Clemens, MI, Shawn L. Blanchett of Clinton Township, MI, James Collins of Aiken, SC

She also leaves behind a cherished family friend, Rita Wills; grandchildren: Ariane Robinson, Raquel Wills, Jodie Wills, Kameron Brown, and Donovan Blanchett; and siblings: Steven (Twala) Lowery of Hartsville, SC, George (Linda) Lowery, Annette (Dwight) Nettles of Summerville, SC, Minister Eula Pack of Darlington, SC, and Lizzie (Walter) Williamson of Darlington, SC

She is also remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and extended family.

Mary was adored by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
