Obituary

“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside the still waters; he restores my soul.  He leads me in right paths for His name’s sake.”                                                       Psalm 23:1-3

Mrs. Martha Jackson Damon was born to Edward Sr. and Olivia Watson Jackson on August 22, 1938 in Darlington, SC. She departed this life early Saturday morning, August 1, 2020 in a Florence nursing facility.

Martha received her education in Darlington County Public Schools, graduating from Mayo High School, Class of 1956.

Martha was married to Mr. Abraham Damon, Sr. and this union was blessed with three children: Cynthia, Abraham Jr., and Anna.

She accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and was active member of Lawson Grove Baptist Church, until her health would not allow her.  Martha actively participated in ministry.  She was an usher, sang on the senior choir, and assisted wherever was needed.  Martha loved her Lord, her church family and especially her Pastor.

Martha was gainfully employed in Darlington County.  First, she worked at Nytronics and later became an effective employee at Sonoco Products Company for over 20 years and retired. With the need to continue to be a support in the community, Martha worked at the Disabilities and Special Needs Thrift Store.  This was a job that Martha thought enriched her life and she enjoyed the people she meet.

Her presence will be missed! To know her was to love her!

Those left to cherish her precious memories are: a caring daughter: Cynthia Damon Murray; a loving and supportive son: Abraham (Loretta) Damon, Jr.; grandchildren: Narrisha, Keith Roderick, Phillip Michael, Abraham Thomas, and Mary Anna; great grandchildren: Sariya, Cam, and Devion; her brother: Edward Jackson, Jr.; special nephew: George Hall; special friend and angel: Flora Lee Coe; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents: Edward (Buddy) Jackson, Sr., Olivia Watson Jackson; her husband: Abraham Damon, Sr.; her daughter: Anna Marie Damon; siblings: Alonzo Jackson, Ophelia Hall, and Mamie Barcus.

Visitation for relatives and friends is being held at the residence, 810 South Dargan Street, Darlington.
