~Life's Reflections~

Mrs. Mamie Lee Holley Jacobs was born on May 18, 1940 in Macclesfield, North Carolina to the late Herman Holley, Sr. and Rosa Wooten Holley. She departed this life peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2020 after a lengthy illness. She was the fourth eldest of ten children. Mamie received her formal education in the Edgecombe County Public School System. She graduated from George Washington Carver High School located in Pine Tops in the spring of 1959. She was a life-long member of the G. W. Carver Alumni Association and she always looked forward to the annual events so that she could reconnect with her classmates.

Mamie accepted Christ during the early 1950’s as a member of the Washington Branch Baptist Church in Maccelesfield, North Carolina, under the leadership of the Reverend J.H. Dixon. Mamie began working on what she always commented as her “soul salvation” by serving on the youth choir and the Young Missionary Circle. Like many African Americans during that time she was a part of the northern migration to the city of Baltimore, Maryland.

Mamie met the love of her life, Wesley Jacobs in 1959 in Baltimore, Maryland. They married on October 22, 1960. From this union were born three children, Wesley J. Jacobs, Jr., Aaron A. Jacobs and Gregory L. Jacobs. Their marriage flourished for 59 years until her departure from this life. Their dedication to the institution of marriage, faith and family has been an unwavering example to all who have interacted with them. Mamie was employed at Servomation Foods, G.C. Murphy’s, Lincoln Convalescent Center and Caton Manor. During the mid 1980’s she entered public service with the Baltimore City Public School System. She progressed from a Food Service Worker to eventually becoming a Food Service Supervisor. She worked at various elementary and middle schools throughout Baltimore City until her retirement. Her final assignment was at Edgewood Elementary School. She loved interacting with the many children who came through her cafeteria every day for breakfast, lunch and a touch of motherly love. She was a proud member of the City Union of Baltimore (CUB).

As a member of the Edmondson Village Community, Mamie was loved by her neighbors and always took an interest in and maintained a watchful eye on the kids who “hung out” with her three sons. She knew every kid in the neighborhood by name and they certainly knew her.

While working full time, Mamie completed studies to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Education at the Family Bible Ministries, Baltimore, MD. Along with her husband, Deacon Wesley Jacobs, Mamie was a member of Holy Temple Freewill Baptist Church for many years under the leadership of the late Reverend Jerry Abson. She served as an Evangelist and sang on the choir. She always enjoyed church fellowships with Siloam Freewill Baptist Church and Christ Deliverance Baptist Church in Baltimore. Mamie was a veracious reader of Christian literature and her favorite pass time was completing cross word puzzle books. A favored scripture would greet you if you got her answering service on Psalms 24:1 “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”

In her retirement, Mamie was a faithful member of Lawson Grove Baptist Church and served on the choir. Throughout the years, she has supported the Wooten-Thigpen Reunion, the Jacobs-Williams Reunion and the Johnson-Holley-Henry Reunion. Her eye for details and keeping accurate books was an asset to the Jacobs-Williams Reunion where she was the first Financial Secretary. She served in this capacity for several decades.

Mamie leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 59 years, Wesley Jacobs; three children, Wesley Jerome Jacobs, Jr. (Emily); Aaron Alexander Jacobs, Sr. (Yvette); and Gregory Leon Jacobs, Sr.; Beloved God Daughters, Gwen Lancaster, Annie Ruth Howard, Sandy Sharpe; thirteen grandchildren, Joshua Alexander Jacobs (Tiana Johnson); Gregory Leon Jacobs, Jr.; Kiara Pinkney; Aaron Alexander Jacobs, Jr.; Raymond Anthony Sparkman IV (Talia); Kevin Lamont Sparkman (Tiffany); Lynette Monet Garner; David Claxton, Dalenique Davis, Kre’ Shinia N. People will forget what you said,

People will forget what you did,
