It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mrs. Lela Mae Bease of Myrtle Beach, SC, formally of Darlington. Ms. Bease transitioned peacefully at her residence in Myrtle Beach.
Funeral service is 1:00PM on Friday, April 14, 2023 in Lawson Grove Baptist Church. Family hour and visitation will be 11:00AM until 1:00PM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lela Mae Bease was born in Darlington, SC on November 19, 1938 a daughter of the late Tyler Wingate and Pauline Holloway Davis. She entered into her final resting place on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law after a long illness.
She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools where she attended Mayo High School.
She was a member of Lawson Grove Baptist Church, Hartsville, SC where she previously served as an Usher.
“Emma”, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was united in marriage to the late Glen D. Bease.
At an early age, she moved to Brooklyn, New York and later to Hackensack, New Jersey.
While there, Lela was employed in various domestic positions. She was later employed by Tension Envelope Company located in Teterboro, NJ and when that facility closed she relocated to Hartsville, SC. Lela began working with her father, Tyler Wingate, at Seven Pines Grocery.
She was preceded in death by: a sister, Betty Jean Davis; two brothers: James Davis and Troy Davis.
Those who shared the joys of life with her and survive to cherish her memory are: a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and John both of Longs, SC; a son, O’Neal (Pamela Wiggins) Davis of Myrtle Beach, SC; six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; her siblings: Rosa Cusack, Synovia Freeman, Estella Randolph, Cynthia Simpson and Curlee Wingate; a host of nieces (that kept her laughing), nephews, cousins and friends.
