It is with heartfelt condolences that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the James family announce the peaceful transition of Mrs. Leatha E. James of Society Hill, SC. Mrs. James passed away early Saturday morning at her residence following an illness.
Funeral service will be 11:00AM on Friday, October 14, 2022 in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Leatha Earline James, 68, wife to Joseph James, Sr. of Society Hill, transitioned on October 8, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.
Born November 30th, 1953, to the late Joseph “Buddy” McClain and Rosena “Bay” McClain in Brooklyn, New York.
Mrs. Leatha was an alumni of Rosenwald High School with the Class of 1971. She later moved to Connecticut to attend the Job Corp after graduation. She returned home shortly to take care of her grandmother Hun.” She began working at Leggs in Darlington, South Carolina for ten years. She worshiped and fellowship at Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member until her heavenly transition. She served as an advisor to the Sunbeam Choir and Junior Choir for many years. She loved helping people, the known and the unknown. She had a caring heart and would give you her last. Let her spirit live on with you.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Joseph James Sr.; Her children, Joseph “KoJack” (Alethia) James of Hartsville, South Carolina, Travis “Greg” (Victor) Primas of Laurinburg, North Carolina, Kelvin James of Society Hill, South Carolina, Erica (Don) Cunningham of Columbia, South Carolina. She is survived by her sisters, Josephine Culler of Augusta, Georgia, Denise McClain, Terry McClain, Sharon Bray, Rosalyn McClain, Sandra McClain all of New York, Michelle Davis of Baltimore Maryland, Diane Mayers of Lexington, South Carolina. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Makala, Crystal, Myeisha, Ahmad, JaiShon, and JaKari; 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, special friends, Deborah Edwards and Minister Lizzie Sims. A special thanks to her Uncle Donnie Perkins, Tammy Perkins, and her Aunt Helen Adams. Acknowledgement to all her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rosena McClain and by her sister, Virgie McClain.
Visitation for relatives and friends of Mrs. Leatha James will be held at her residence, 4177 East Old Camden Highway, Society Hill, SC.
