Mrs. Josephine Samuel Williamson

It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and the Williamson Family announce the passing of Mrs. Josephine Samuel Williamson of Darlington. Mrs. Williamson transitioned peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.  

Funeral service is 1:00PM on Sunday, April 9, 2023 at New Life Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 1010 North Douglas Street, Florence.  Interment will follow in Gandy Cemetery. 

Viewing will be Friday, April 7, from Noon to 5:00pm and Saturday, April 8, from10:00am to 1:30pm.

Obituary

    Mrs. Josephine Samuel Williamson entered this life on May 17, 1930 to the proud parents of Whitmore Howard and Mary Samuel McIver.  She was the second child of eleven.  She entered into her final rest on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at her residence.

    Josephine received her primary education in the Darlington County Public Schools, Rosenwald High School, Society Hill.

    She spent her whole life in Darlington County where she met George Willard Williamson, Sr. and was married on July 24, 1948.  This union was blessed with six children: George (Doretha) Williamson, Jr. of Darlington, SC, Mary (Robert) Robinson of Hinesville, GA, Diane Williamson of Darlington, SC, Joseph Williamson (deceased), Dorothy (Ronnie) Stuart of Schertz, TX and Ernest (Carol) Williamson of Society Hill, SC.

    Josephine repented of her sins and was baptized in the name of Jesus in 1975 and received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost.  She was a member of the New Life Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Florence, SC. She supported the church in anyway she could.  She loved the Lord, her church family and her friends. She enjoyed reading the Word of God, doing find the number puzzles, fishing, playing bingo and going on vacations with her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

   Those who are left to cherish  her memory in addition to her children are:  one sister, Pearl McIver of Augusta, GA; one brother, Jake McIver of Bronx, NY; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and countless of friends who will truly miss her.

    She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, one son, seven sisters and one brother:  Theola Samuel, Alice Myhand, Nellie S. Parker, Elizabeth Love, Harriet Patterson, Nelson Samuel, Carrie McIver and Tabby McIver.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be at the home of a son, George Williamson, 2264 Cashua Ferry Road, Darlington daily from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
