It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Hudson and Smith families announce the passing of Mrs. Janice Ann Smith of Darlington. Tina, as she was affectionately called, exchanged time for eternity on Thursday night, January 25, 2024 at her residence following an illness. 

Funeral service is 1:00PM on Friday, February 02, 2024 at Nathan Temple Fire Baptized Holiness Church, 910 Myrtle Street, Hartsville, SC.  Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Today we have come as family and friends to celebrate the life of our beloved one, Ms. Janice Ann Dupree Smith. Born on April 15, 1971 in Darlington County of Darlington, South Carolina the daughter of Martha Ann Dupree-Hudson and the late Coleman Bull. Our sweet angel gained her wings on Thursday, January 25, 2024.

Janice Smith attended Mayo High School in Darlington, SC where she graduated in the Golden Bear Class of 1989. She also attended Benedict College and was employed by McDonald's, Sam’s Club and McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence as a Rehabilitation Service Aid since 2015 where she was loved and was the life of the team.

Janice Smith was married to the late Rev. Theophilus A.M. Smith where the two spent 11 wonderful years together. Janice was a loving and caring person who always kept a smile and laughter in her heart. Janice was known as Tina, her childhood nickname given by her late grandmother Martha Nelson Dupree. Her favorite color was lime green, shopping at the Bargain Ben on Saturday with her Aunt Rita, and her favorite sayings were “It was good to me” and “Yeah I’m okay”. She also and always loved to talk about how much she loved her grandchildren; Khira and Isaiah Jr.

As a child, Janice Smith was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Darlington, SC. After being married she joined and was a faithful and dedicated member of Nathan Temple Fire Baptized Holiness Church in Hartsville, SC. Within Nathan Temple she was part of the Mission Department, Mass Choir, Kitchen Committee, and HYPU Committee.

In addition to her father, grandmother, and husband, Janice Smith was preceded in death by her brother, Corey Hudson.

Those left to cherish her loving memories are: her sons: Isaiah A.C. Smith (Daja Cusack) of Florence, SC and Isaac A.C. Smith of Charlotte, NC; her mother, Martha Ann Dupree-Hudson; her sister, Joni Renee Hudson of Darlington, SC; two grandchildren: Khira Renee Cusack Smith and Isaiah A.C. Smith Jr.; mother-in-law, A.Tucker, father-in-law, Johnny Tucker, Jr.; sister-in-law, Bridget Johnson Hudson; brother-in-law, John C. Tucker; three nephews: Jalen Corey Hudson, Steffan Johnson and Joshua Wingate; one niece, Aliscia Wingate; special friend, Glenn Wright; a god-son, Darius Byrd; best friends: Michelle Coe, Josephine Ridges, Michelle Byrd and Felicia Melvin; special aunt, Marie Deas; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends that loved and adored her.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 138 Wine Street, Darlington.
