Mrs. Helen Goodson Lighty

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mrs. Helen Lighty of Darlington. Mrs. Lighty transitioned on Saturday, January 1, 2022.

Funeral service is 2:00pm on Sunday, January 9, 2022 in Greenlawn Cemetery, Hartsville. Interment will follow. Please adhere to social distancing and mask wearing for this service. 

Obituary

“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.”
 
Mrs. Helen Goodson Lighty (affectionately known as " Tiny" by close relatives and friends) was born September 28th, 1942, to Lessie and Ida Mae Williams Goodson, in Darlington SC.  She graduated from Mayo High School and later furthered her training at Florence Darlington Tech.  She went on to work several jobs: with careers at General Electric and Sam's Club having the longest tenures.
 
She found the Lord at an early age, was baptized and joined New Providence Missionary Baptist church.  She later joined Bethesda Missionary Baptist church after marrying her husband, Rev. Julius Lighty.  Through this union "Mr. Danny" and Richard were born, and she filled their lives with a Mother's love; like only a Mother could do.
 
She believed in LIVING life and enjoyed traveling, bowling and word search puzzles.  Beautiful flowers never went unnoticed in her presence.  She always took the time to smell the roses.  Of all the things she loved, her family and friends were the most precious.  She leaves a legacy of love and care to all those she held close.
Those left to cherish her memory are: her sons, Danny Lighty of Darlington, SC and Richard (Theresa) Lighty of Columbia, SC; granddaughters, Kayla Munoz and Debria Robinson of Columbia, SC; great grandson, Aubri Munoz of Columbia, SC; siblings, Byrdie (Lessie) Joseph, Eunice( Robert) Holloman, Mitchell (Gloria) Goodson all of Darlington, SC, Tribut (Faye) Williamson of Winston-Salem, NC ; sisters-in-law: Rose Goodson, Clara Goodson, Georgia Mae Goodson, Rudean Cain all of Darlington, SC; Doris Lighty and Ella Mae Wingate both of Columbia, SC, Bertha Wilkerson of Atlanta, GA, Marilyn (Frank) Hines of Queens, NY; brothers-in-law: Fred Lighty of Darlington, SC, Louie (Fredericka) Lighty of Columbia, SC.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Lessie and Ida Mae Goodson; husband, Reverend Julius Lighty  and siblings: Heyward Goodson, Douglas Goodson, Leo Goodson, Sylvester Goodson, Wallace Goodson, Cary Williamson and Mary Frances Goodson.
