Obituary

It is with profound sorrow the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mrs. Helen L. Murray of Darlington.  Mrs. Murray transitioned on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center following an illness.  

Funeral service is 11:00AM on Friday, July 21, 2023 in the Chapel of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc.  Interment will follow in Hart No. 2 Cemetery.

   “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”                                                                                               Revelation 21:4

   Mrs. Helen L. Murray was born June 2, 1938 a daughter of the late Ethel Mae Gurley Lunnon Mack and the late Dobbie Lunnon.  She entered into her eternal resting place on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Carolina Pine Regional Medical Center, Hartsville, SC.

    She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public School System where she attended Mayo High School.

    Helen was a member of Center Baptist Church where she was a member of the Choir and Usher Board.  She was always willing to help anyone if she could and was always a hard worker.

    At an early age, she gave birth to a son, John “Buster” Lunnon, who preceded her in death.  Later, she was united in marriage to the late Aaron “Tuby” Murray and to this union a daughter, Tammy Denice Murray, was born.

    Those left to cherish her memory are:  a very very faithful daughter, Tammy D. Green-Williams of the home; a very faithful son-in-law, Curtis Williams of the home; a very faithful grandson, Jonathan (Angelia) Lunnon of Florence, SC; five great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; very faithful nephews: Terry (Mary) Dubose of Darlington, SC, Marshal Jackson and Calvin Jackson both of Georgia; a very faithful cousin, Pulin Gurley of Darlington, SC; several other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
