It is with heartfelt sorrow that the Alford and Graham families and the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey announce the passing of Mrs. Gloria Jean Alford Graham of Darlington. Mrs. Graham transitioned peacefully on Monday morning, January 1, 2024 at McLeod Hospice House following an illness.
Funeral service is 11:00am on Saturday, January 06, 2024 in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Faith Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Gloria Jean Alford Graham was born July 28, 1951 in Darlington, SC a daughter of the late Alexander and Laura Mae Gibson Alford. On Monday, January 1, 2024 at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC, Gloria Jean departed her earthly home. She is now resting in the arms of her Heavenly Father.
“Jean”, as she was called by her family and friends, received her formal education in the Darlington County Public School System graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1970.
Gloria’s last place of employment was Hartsville Oil Mill from which she retired in 2017 when her health began to decline.
Gloria was married to the love of her life, Ronney Graham in 1998. They were inseparable. When you see one the other was always there.
Gloria was a faithful member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Usher Board, Communion Steward, Kitchen Committee, Nomination Committee, Pastor’s Aide Board and Women of Faith Organization. She loved working in the church.
Jean was called “Ma-Ma” by all the neighborhood children. She loved to be around the children and helped however she could. She loved to laugh and have fun with her family and friends. She was the life of every family gathering. She always had a laugh for everyone. She will be truly missed.
Gloria Jean leaves to cherish her loving memory: her loving husband, Ronney Graham of the home; three children: Kevin (Lisa) Alford of Darlington, SC, RonneiKa Hawkins of Clarksville, TN and Michael Graham of Darlington, SC; three sisters: Laura Fields, Daisy Smart and Joyce Robertson all of Darlington, SC; two brothers: Henry (Deloris) Alford and Freddie Alford both of Darlington, SC; six brothers-in-law: Roosevelt (Gwendolyn) Graham, Kascey (Nancy) Graham and Gary Graham all of Darlington, SC, Alphonso (Shirley) Moses, Eddie Peterson and Steve Baker; two sisters-in-law, Modestine (Archie) Dargan and Katherine Williamson both of Darlington, SC; five grandchildren: Shanitta Alford, Shakeyia Alford, Takeela Alford, ShyKime Alford all of Darlington, SC and Jamal Samuel of Atlanta, GA; seven great grandchildren; special daughter, Stephanie Witherspoon; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Alexander Alford, Jr.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 205 Chalmers St. Darlington.
