Obituary

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:6-8

Mrs. Glenda Singletary McCurry was born on October 12, 1959 in Florence, SC. She was a daughter of the late George David Washington and Lizzie Ann Singletary.  Glenda departed this earthly life on Wednesday night, December 23, 2020 in McLeod Hospice House.

Glenda attended the Darlington County School System and was graduated of Rosenwald High School, Class of 1977. After high school, she joined the worked force and worked a variety of jobs: a crossing guard, school bus driver, and lastly a dietician at Bethel Retirement Homes.

She was a faithful member of the Mount Rona Baptist Church, where she a member of the Mass Choir and a member of the Usher Ministry.  Glenda was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Reginald McCurry. Glenda and Reginald shared a special bond.  When you saw one, you saw the other.  They were known for coordinating their colors. Reggie was her “Mr. McCurry” and she was his “Sweetie”.

Glenda was a mother and grandmother to all she came in contact with her. She was the neighborhood grandma and was known as “Miss Gwen.” Glenda was a very loving, caring, and sweet spirited person.  She loved singing and cooking. To know her was to love her.
