Obituary
It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Broome family share the passing of Mrs. Gertrude "Peggy" Broome of Darlington, SC. Mrs. Broome passed on Thursday, February 2, 2023 in McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC, following an illness.
Funeral service is 1:00PM on Sunday, February 12, 2023 in Lawson Grove Baptist Church in Hartsville, SC. Mask are required. Interment will follow in the Lawson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
"Life Reflection"
Gertrude “Peggy” Broome was born January 5, 1940 in Darlington, SC a daughter of the late Leroy and Nora Lee Sansbury Bacote.
She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1958.
Mrs. Broome worked many years at Nytronics, Inc. and Day Care of Darlington, SC. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She grew up in Lawson Grove Baptist Church and later became a member of Vision Assembly of Darlington, SC.
Ms. “Peggy”, as she was affectionately called, entered into her eternal rest on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.
“Peggy” was preceded in death by her parents: Leroy and Nora Lee Bacote; her late husband, Edward Jimmy Broome; her brother, Leroy Bacote, Jr. and sister, Magnolia Bacote.
Those left to cherish her memories are: her three daughters: Linda (Sanford) Freeman of Hartsville, SC, Gwendolyn Broome Blizzard of Myrtle Beach, SC and Stacie (Sean) Broome of Hartsville, SC; three grandchildren: Makala S. Broome, Ladaris Williams and Qudaris Williams all of Darlington, SC; two great grandchildren: Terrell L. Mouzon, Jr. and Da’Mauni O. Williams both of Darlington, SC; her brother, Jimmy (Cheryl) Bacote of Paterson, NJ, her sister, Carolyn (Rotha) Dupree of Darlington, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 524 Mallard Duck Drive, Darlington, SC.
