It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mrs. Geneva Wingate Medlock of Hartsville, SC. Mrs. Medlock passed early Tuesday morning, April 6, 2021 at her residence following an illness.
Funeral service is 10 AM on Monday, April 12, 2021 at St. John's United Methodist Church, Oates Community. Interment will be private.
Mrs. Geneva “Genney” Wingate Medlock was born on July 14, 1940 in Hartsville, South Carolina (Darlington County) to Jackson “Junnie” Wingate and Mavis Jones Wingate.
Geneva received her formal education in the Darlington County Public School system and the Public Schools of New York. She also attended the Austin Community College, where she received certification for secretarial administration.
She was an employee of Carolina Hospital Systems for over 22 years in administration. Geneva served well and retired after faithfully serving.
“Genney” as she was affectionately called was a faithful member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Oates Community of Darlington County. She loved singing and was a member of the choir.
Geneva was married to the late David Henry Medlock, Sr. This union lasted for about 48 years until David’s transition in January 2021. Geneva and David was blessed with four sons: Kenney Allen Cooper, Andrew Sean Medlock, David H. Medlock, Jr., and Frederick Anderson.
Those left to cherish the precious memory of Geneva are: her three sons: Andrew Sean (Angela) Medlock of Austin, TX, David H. (Tranisa) Medlock, Jr. of Hartsville, SC, Frederick (Shanique’wa) Anderson of Smithville, TX; grandchildren: Damekia Captain, Kenney A. Cooper, Jr., Amber Medlock, Sean Medlock, Jr., Israel (Kenisha) Washington, Brady (Cathryn) Medlock, Tatyana White, Davon Medlock, David Medlock, Angel Medlock, Zachery Medlock, Noah O’Neal Anderson; six great grandchildren; nieces and nephews: Deshon Wingate, Tishana Wingate, and Dr. Yvette Wingate; brothers and sisters-in-law: Claude D. (Arllene) Medlock of Dallas, TX, Dorothy N. (Billy) Medlock of Houston, TX, James H. Medlock of Houston, TX, and Sandra Medlock Riley of Austin, TX; and many other relatives and friends.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents: Jackson and Mavis Wingate, her husband, David Medlock, Sr., her son, Kenney Allen Cooper, Sr, and her brother, Reverend George D. Wingate.
