It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the peaceful transition of Mrs. Floria Lee Goodson Bragg, aka known as Betty. Mrs. Bragg exchanged time for eternity on Thursday, September 28, 2023 in Virginia Beach, VA following an illness.
Funeral service is 11:00AM on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Palmetto Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Cherry Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Public viewing will be 12Noon to 6:00PM on Friday, October 6, 2023 in the chapel.
Floria Lee Goodson Bragg was born January 18, 1936 in Darlington, South Carolina to the late Robert and Robbie Lee Goodson.
“Betty”, as she was affectionately called departed this earthy life on Thursday, September 28, 2023 in Virginia Beach, VA surrounded by her loving family.
She attended the Public Schools in Darlington County, graduating from Mayo High School, Class of 1954.
She married to the late Percy Bragg in Baltimore, MD on August 20, 1957.
Before moving out of state, Betty was an active member of Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she sang on the Jubilee Choir.
She was employed at the Saleeby Development Center as a Certified Nursing Assistant for approximately 15 years. A large portion of her life was devoted to raising her grandchildren.
While living in upstate NY raising her grandkids, she was a member of Sweet Haven Holy Church of God #3 where she was on the Mother’s Board and sang in the Women’s Choir.
Betty was a very loving and soft-spoken person who loved cooking. She loved her family and did everything she possibly could to see that she gave them what they needed. While at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, she attended church services and enjoyed the following activities: playing bingo, reading, painting and drawing.
Those left to cherish her memories are: her devoted children, Renee Bragg-World, Tanya Bragg Orama, and Keith (Melissa) Bragg; her grandchildren, Ahneisha (Marquice) Felton, Tonita Jett, Lorelle (John) Mitchell, Keith Bragg, Jr., and Khadijah (D’Andre) Elliott; her great-grandchildren, Kionte Freeman, Ashanti Jett-Freeman, Amari Davis, Mason Mitchell, Destiny Beasley, and Christopher Dittmer; her brother, Jerome (Brenda) Goodson, a host of other relatives and friends whom she loved dearly.
Betty was preceded in death by many relatives including her brother, Alphonso Goodson.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence of a brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Brenda Goodson, 225 East McIver Road, Darlington, from 2:00pm to 7:00pm daily.
