The Obituary
“For now I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.” II Timothy 4:6-8
On December 29, 1929, the world changed and our world as a family was only beginning. Eula Mae Scott was born to Inez Scipio in Darlington, S.C. She was raised by a host of aunts and uncles who brought her up to become the phenomenal woman we knew as “Sister”, mama, grandma, granny or just friend.
She was a proud graduate of Mayo High School and was a member of Snow Hill Baptist Church of Florence, S.C. At the age of 16, she married Advil Josey of Darlington and they hadfour children: Cleveland Josey (Marie Fleming), Marcella Josey Hudson (William Hudson, Jr.), Advil Josey, Jr. (Linda B. Josey) and Kevin Josey. It was a union that lasted until Advil Sr.’s passing in 2003. They were members of Macedonia Baptist Church of Darlington for many years, and she served as a church nurse and faithful member.
Eula was always full of smiles and wisdom that she shared whether you wanted to hear it or not. But one thing was for sure, she shared it with love. One motto that she often shared was “take what you can use and leave the rest” when it came to her advice. Her life was lived according to her love of God, and she shared His Word and love with her family and friends.
Each time we left a conversation with her, we walked away wiser and uplifted. Mama and grandma will be remembered as a shining matriarch who made an indelible and everlasting imprint on our lives. She was loved and shared love with us and everyone she met. Her laughter and beautiful spirit will forever live in our hearts.
In addition to her children, she is survived by four grandchildren, Dedric L. Hudson (Marsha Wingate), Rosalynn Josey, Jatika Hudson and Tia Jenae Bullock and two great grandchildren, Amiyah Josey and Xavier D. Josey. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Special friends that were loved like family will also carry on her memory: Malinda Pearson along with her children Josh and Joyce, and Bernard and Patricia McDowell and their children Jason and Debbie.
Fly high and keep praising God. We will miss you tremendously!
