Obituary

“For now I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.”                        II Timothy 4:6-8

Mrs. Ethel Franklin Bramhan passed away to her final resting place on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Sumter East Health and Rehabilitation Center, Sumter, SC.  She was born in Darlington, South Carolina on December 11, 1920, a daughter of the late John Theodore Franklin, Sr. and Anita Evans Franklin.

She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1938.  This instilled a value for education that her children could see extended throughout her life.

Early in her adult life, she ventured out into independency by moving to New York where she sought employment in domestic services.  She worked many years in this capacity until she met the love of her life, Mr. Richard C. Bramhan, Sr., whom she married in King County, Seattle, Washington on September 21, 1942.  Eventually, she moved back to Darlington while her husband served in the United States Navy.  They were married until his death in 1983.

Mrs. Ethel’s creativity extends beyond the Kitchen, she was a lover of plants and flowers.  She could often be seen throughout her home and yard working with her house plants and garden.  She took great pride in having original floral arrangements in her home.  She also loved baking and decorating cakes. That was her pride and joy …. She was the best!

She was preceded in death by her parents: John & Nita Franklin; her siblings: J. T. Franklin, Willie Franklin, Benjamin Franklin, Woodrow Franklin and Josephine Franklin Jordan; a daughter, Ethel Waldell; a son, James Edward Bramhan and one granddaughter, Nyoka Scott.

Those left to cherish her precious memory are:  seven children:  Rosalannd Daley, Richard Bramhan (Barbara), Floris Bramhan, Fran Goodson (Roosevelt), Catherine Minor (Randy), John Bramhan and Alvenia Wilson (Irby); 20 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A special thanks to her caregivers, Denise Johnson, Pam Gray and Sumter East Rehabilitation Center, Sumter, South Carolina.
Visitation for family and friends is held at the daughter and son-in-law residence, Fran and Elder Roosevelt Goodson of 302 Moses Drive, Darlington. Masks are required at residence.
