It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and relatives of Mrs. Emma Grace Brown announce her transition. Mrs. Brown departed her earthly life on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Medical University of South Carolina - Charleston following an illness.
Funeral service is 11:00AM on Friday, April 12, 2024 in Center Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Faith Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Emma Grace Brown, also known as, “Lady E,” was born August 3, 1967, in Florence, SC, a daughter of the late John Johnson, Sr. and Willie Mae Murphy Johnson. She transitioned peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Medical University of South Carolina Medical Center, Charleston, SC.
Emma attended Lamar High School in Lamar, SC, and graduated in the Class of 1985. Emma was truly a friend and hard worker. She loved her husband, her children, and her family. One of her proudest moments was becoming a grandmother.
Some of her favorite hobbies were going to a yard sale, shopping for deals, and she loved cooking for her family.
Emma worked many years for the Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority (PDRTA), after which she went to work at the Darlington Country Club where she was a cook. Her most recent job was at Mcleod Regional Medical Center in Florence before her health declined.
Survivors left to cherish her loving memory are: her husband of 17 years: Charles Brown of the home; three sons: Maurice Johnson of Florence, SC, Ronelle (Reva) Brockington, Jr. of Charlotte, NC and Bradley Brockington of Florence, SC; three daughters who Emma claimed as her own: Tiara Brown of Lincolnville, SC, Nicole Brown of Charleston, SC and Marianna Brown of Maryland; eight grandchildren: Shaquan M. Johnson, Amari M. Brockington, Syniah M. Johnson, Shamer M. Johnson, Wyatt R. Brockington, Ava R. Brockington, Shakiah M. Johnson and Charles E. Brown; eight siblings: Lillie (Jerry) Damon of Hinesville, GA, Jerome Johnson of Columbia, SC, JoAnn (Mike) Rogers of Florence, SC, Betty (Rodney) Johnson of Columbia, SC, Jerry (Elise) Johnson of Hinesville, GA, Moretta (Tenyonde) Richardson of Hartsville, SC, Linda (Kenneth) Robinson of Florence, SC and Sonia Douglas of Charlotte, NC; mother-in-law, Aleitha Brown of Summerville, SC; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Johnson of Florence, SC; two brothers-in-law: Eric D. Brown of Florence, SC and Trevor M. Brown of Jacksonville, FL; one aunt: Gracie Mae Heck of Greensboro, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces andnephews, and cousins. Emma is also survived by three step-sisters and one step-brother; a special nephew: Tyshun Richardson of Hartsville, SC; and two god-children: Andron and Aiden McElveen; life-long friends: Mattie Hyman, Helen Coe, Willie Mae Dolford, Jamaine Washington, Ronelle Brockington, Sr., Gee Goodman and Alesia McCormick Smith.
Emma was preceded in death by: her parents: John Johnson, Sr. and Willie Mae Douglas; her step-father, Andrew Douglas, who help reared her; her brother, John Johnson, Jr.; a nephew, Rodney Lee Johnson, Jr.; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 2306 Broad Dr. Florence, SC.
