Mrs. Ellen Brown Tedder

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Brown family announce the peaceful transition of Mrs. Ellen Brown Tedder of Darlington, SC. Mrs. Tedder answered the Master’s call on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Medford Nursing Center. 

A celebration of a life well-lived will be 1:00pm on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Final disposition of Mrs. Tedder’s mortal remains will be in the church cemetery. 

Life’s Story 

    “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”  II Timothy 4:7-8

    Mrs. Ellen Brown Tedder was born in Hartsville, SC, on May 22, 1922, the daughter of the late Mollie Brown Bristow. She entered into her final rest on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Medford Nursing Center, Darlington, SC.

    She was a lifetime member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

    She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools and worked as farmer. Mrs. Tedder enjoyed gardening, working in her flower beds, and shopping. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

    Mrs. Tedder was united in marriage to the late Robert Lee Tedder where they resided in Society Hill, SC, and later built a home in Dovesville where she lived until her health declined. She then became a resident of Medford Nursing Home, Darlington, SC.

    Those left to carry on her legacy are: her daughter, Ruth Wallace of Simpsonville, SC; special son/nephew, Deacon James (Diane) Brown, Jr., of Darlington, SC; special daughter/granddaughter, Mary Ann Tedder of Darlington, SC; along with granddaughters: Sharon Wallace of Florence, SC, and Tania Wallace of Ansonia, CT; ten great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and the Dovesville Community that will cherish her memory. 

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mollie Brown Bristow; her husband, Robert Lee Tedder; her brothers: James Brown, Sr., and George Brown; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Wallace.

Visitation for relatives and friends will begin on Thursday, July 5, 2024, at the residence of a nephew, Deacon James Brown, 344 Floyds Rd, Darlington, SC.
