Mrs. Elizabeth Jacobs Greene

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Greene family announce the passing of Mrs. Elizabeth Jacobs Greene of Darlington, SC. Mrs. Greene peacefully transitioned on the evening of Thursday, June 13, 2024, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC, following an illness.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, June 16th and Monday, June 17th from 12:00 PM-7:00 PM at 536 McCowns Mill Pond Rd, Darlington, SC.

Obituary

Deaconess Elizabeth Jacobs Greene was born on October 8, 1935, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Shirley and Annie Gee Jacobs. She transitioned into eternal rest on Thursday evening, June 13, 2024, at Mcleod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC.

Deaconess Greene received her formal education in the Lamar area schools in Darlington County. She was a kind, gentle woman of God who always had a smile, a firm hand, and inspirational words of wisdom. Elizabeth grew up in the Oates Community and was affectionately called “Liz,” by family and friends. At a young age she met and was smitten by the smile of James Greene, Jr., and married soon thereafter. In 1955, they relocated to New Haven, CT. A few years later, their roots beckoned them back to South Carolina where she became an active member of Lee Street First Church of God.

Elizabeth dedicated herself to being a great mother. Her abilities and contributions were incredibly valuable and impactful. She was outstanding and wholeheartedly devoted herself to her family and home. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Nancy Cain, Phyllis (Edward) Scott, Yvonne Greene, Robin (Tommy) Jones, Allison Carraway, and Christa (Jerry) McAllister; daughter-in-law, Vanessa Greene; a sister, Jeannie Jones of Missouri City, TX; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins; special family friend: Henry Robinson; and close family and friends.

Deaconess Elizabeth Jacobs Greene was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years Deacon James Greene, Jr.; her parents; siblings: Mary Louise Copeland, Eddie Kelly, Evelyn Dargan, Shirley Jacobs, and Aaron Jacobs; her sons: Jonathan Boyd Greene and Richard James Greene; and two sons-in-law: Carl Cain and Sgt. Terrence F. Carraway.

Public viewing at the funeral home will be Tuesday, June 18th from 1:00 PM-5:00 PM.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Lee Street First Church of God, 222 Lee St, Darlington, SC. Interment to follow at Faith Memorial Gardens, Rogers Rd, Darlington, SC.
