Mrs. Dorothy Mae Lang Lyde

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Lang and Lyde families announce the passing of Mrs. Dorothy Mae Lang Lyde of Darlington. Mrs. Lyde transitioned on Friday, December 09, 2022 at a Florence hospital following an illness. 

Memorial service is 2:00PM on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Darlington Congregation. 

Mrs. Dorothy Mae Lang Lyde was born in Darlington, South Carolina on July 5, 1938 a daughter of the late McFarland Lang and Ada Hamlin Lang.  She departed this life on Friday, December 9, 2022 at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center.      

She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1955.  

Dorothy worked in Insurance and Investments and liked working at Flea Markets.  She loved helping people also talking to people.      

She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witness in March, 1967 and was a faithful member of the Jehovah’s Witness Darlington Congregation.  She served as a regular pioneer (full time Minister) for 5 years in the Darlington Congregation.      

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, other family member and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.      

She was predeceased by:  her sisters: Lillie Louise Sparks, Adelle Carraway and Vivian Lang; three sisters-in-law: Edith Lyde, Maggie Lide and Melba Lyde; one brother-in-law: Ernest Lyde; her long-time friend, Olivia Hawkins.      

Those left to cherish her memory are:  her devoted husband of 67 years, Willie Lyde, Sr. of the home; her four children: Ethen (Doretha) Lyde of Darlington, SC, Deborah (Ellison “Ed”) Brunson of Florence, SC, Teressa A. Caldwell (Dwayne Holland) of Charlotte, NC and Willie Lyde, Jr. of Columbia, SC; a brother, Theodore M. Lang of Darlington, SC; a sister, Elizabeth L. Arthur of Florence, SC; nine grandchildren: Monica (Timothy) Keith, Vincent Brunson, Tory Dubose, Tianna Lyde, Asa Caldwell, Ebonie Caldwell, Dustyn Caldwell, Alexis Brunson and Destinie (Dallas) Sellers; seven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Dorothy (Eugene) Johnson of Darlington, SC, Vivian (Johnny) Boykins of Pensacola, FL and Gracie Dell Lyde; three brothers-in-law: Tonsil Lide of MD, Nathaniel of Philadelphia, PA and James Lyde of Darlington, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
