It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mrs. Dorothy Coe of Darlington. Mrs. Coe transitioned on June 8, 2020 in a Florence medical center. 

The family of Mrs. Dorothy Greene Coe in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, would love to be surrounded by your presence. They acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic health conditions and ask that those who attend the service ensure you are wearing BOTH MASKS AND GLOVES and practice social distancing.  During this time, the family needs mostly your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 in the Church Yard of Christ Temple Holiness Church.  Interment will follow in Faith Memorial Gardens. 

Obituary

    “And god shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be anymore pain for the former things are passed away.”

     Mrs. Dorothy Mae Greene Coe was born on July 5 1943 in Savannah Georgia to Mr Roosevelt and Wealthy Lawton Greene. She was the 5th out go 6 children. Dorothy attended school in Savannah Georgia. 

     She was married to the late Charles Baker Sr. to this union 5 children were born: twin boys, Keith and Kevin, Charlesetta, Charles, Jr., and Latonya. Shortly after their union, they relocated to Brooklyn, New York where Charles Sr. met an untimely death. During this time, Dorothy and her children relocated to Queens to pursue happier times.

     Dorothy then met J.C Coe and their friendship flourish into marriage. She was very happy and enjoyed the simple life being with her family was enough. Her grandchildren also had a very special place in her heart. She was known for her delicious food hosting various holidays. She was known for her outstanding cooking which was one of the ways she express her love for family and friends. 

   She worked at the J.F.K Airports, she was also a domestic care worker and retired from the US Postal Service. 

   She was preceded in death by: her Parents, Roosevelt and Wealthy Lawton Greene; her twin boys, Keith and Kevin; two sisters and three brothers.

    While living in New York, she was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Queens where she was a Deaconess, choir member and served wherever else needed. After relocating to South Carolina, she became a member of Christ Temple Holiness Church where she served on the Pastor’s Aide and Missionary Ministry. 

    Dorothy "Dot" Coe leaves to mourn her passing: her husband, J.C Coe; her children: Charles Baker, Jr., Charlesetta Baker, Latonya (Tyrone) Edwards, James(Karen) Coe and Michele (George) Foxe; her grandchildren: Tori, Todd, Tamel, Tanae, Taleah, Tyniece, Kayshon, Tyleak, Tysheen, Tykira, William, Daquan, Shaquille, Maya, Hasuan; her great grandchildren: Tah’zarra, Milyan, Tyilan, Tori, London, Talayla, Xavier and Olivia; her sisters and brothers-in-law: Carrie Quick, Ernest (Linda) Scott, Margaret Swinton, Patricia Wallace, Archie Wallace and Thelma (Jay) Honeyblue; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
