It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the transition of Mrs. Dorothy Wright-Samuel of Orangeburg, formally of Darlington. Mrs. Samuel transitioned on Thursday, November 5, 2020 in an Orangeburg hospital following an extended illness.
Graveside services will be 2:00pm on Monday, November 9, 2020 in the Palmetto Baptist Church Cemetery, Piano Road, Darlington. Interment will follow. Viewing and visitation with the family will be 2-5pm on Sunday, November 8, 2020 in the Chapel of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.
Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy Wright Samuel passed away peacefully on November 5, 2020 at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, SC after a long illness. She was born March 17, 1954 to the late Albert Wright Jr. and Nellie Lou Daggett Wright in Darlington, SC.
She attended the Darlington County Public Schools System graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1972.
She joined Palmetto Baptist Church, Darlington, SC at an early age where she would teach Sunday School as an adult.
Dorothy furthered her education at Morris College, Sumter, SC and then married her high school sweetheart, Clarence "Big C" Samuel in 1973.
She was employed at Walmart as a manager and later as a teacher's aide in Darlington County Public Schools. She enjoyed art and crafts and spending time with her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; three sisters: Alberta Arthur, Betty Joe Wright-Coe and Nellie Mae Wright-Lee-Heyward-Green and one brother, Albert Wright III “Benny”.
Those left to cherish her memories are: her two sons: Clarence Samuel Jr. (Traci) of Columbia, SC and Michael Samuel of Lexington, SC; two grandchildren: Clarence Samuel III “Tre” and Caylen Samuel both of Columbia, SC; four aunts: Daisy (Ollie) Buckner of Marrietta, GA, Janie Dodoo of NY, Elsie Daggett and Carey Daggett both of Delaware; two uncles: Joe (Rosa) Daggett and George Daggett both of Florence, SC: three brothers-in-law: Earnest Coe (Gwendolyn), Henry Arthur both of Darlington, SC and Randall Samuel of Hartsville, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
