It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mrs. Calperta Johnson McLeod of Darlington. Mrs. McLeod transitioned on Saturday, June 20, 2020 in McLeod Hospice House. 

The family of Mrs. Calperta Johnson McLeod in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, would love to be surrounded by your presence. They acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic health conditions and ask that those who attend the service ensure you are wearing BOTH MASKS AND GLOVES and practice social distancing.  During this time, the family needs mostly your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.

Public viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 from 10AM to 5PM in the Chapel of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc.  Funeral service will be 10AM on Thursday, June 25, 2020 in Lawson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Interment will follow. 

~Obituary~

    “For now I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.”                      II Timothy 4:6-8

    Mrs. Calperta Johnson McLeod was born in Darlington County, South Carolina on March 16, 1932 a daughter of the late Raymond and Ida Fedd Johnson.  She departed this life on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC after an extended illness.

    She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public School System. 

    She was employed at Oakhaven Nursing Home and The Front Porch.

    At an early age, she attended and joined Lawson Grove Baptist Church where she enjoyed being an Usher and member of the Gospel Choir.

    Calperta was united in marriage to the late Cleveland McLeod, Sr. 

    “Pert”, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend.  She loved flowers, playing games with her children and grandchildren, fishing and watching baseball.  Calperta will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

    She was preceded in death by:  two sisters, Dorothy Price of Hartsville, SC, Hester Louise Durant of Hartsville, SC; one brother, Aaron Johnson of Lamar, SC; two grandsons, Ronnie McLeod, Jr. of Darlington, SC and Dante Eugene Wallace of Darlington, SC.
